From the many meetings, conferences, anniversaries, engagements, bar and bat mitzvahs and Simchas, our hotel has welcomed the community of Winnipeg to celebrate their most cherished moments and occasions with us.
Our love affair with Winnipeg and the world started in 1969 with the construction of the Winnipeg Inn by a prominent Winnipeg family. With close ties to the community through their grain business, the Richardson family continued their contribution to Winnipeg by building a modern and efficient business hotel on Winnipeg's most desirable corner. With Winnipeg serving as both a regional and national center for business, the timing was right to introduce a modern hotel equipped to welcome the business traveler of the day.
We have welcomed the world for every reason a person travels. From the 41st Annual Canadian Premiers Conference to Queen Elizabeth to the Rolling Stones, The Fairmont Winnipeg has always been the home of royalty, entertainers and movie stars. Our history is defined by exceptional service and gracious hospitality, proven by the fact that we are Winnipeg's only hotel to be awarded the AAA/CAA Four-Diamond award for 17 straight years.
While the past 30 years have forever defined our role in the city as the place to socialize and meet, our future is even more exciting. Under the Fairmont banner, we have launched a $14 million renovation of the hotel that will ensure the future of The Fairmont Winnipeg is as successful as its past.
