• In 1887, Hotel Victoria, a grand 500-room hotel, opened here at 8 Northumberland and operated until the 1940s, when the building was requisitioned by the War Office and occupied by the Crown. 
• The ballroom is one of the grandest Victorian hotel interiors remaining in London, with much of its rich ornament still intact.
