PURPOSE OF POSITION
- The Laundry / Linen Keeper / Tailor is responsible for processing guests’ personal laundry, laundering specific ship owned linen items and crew uniforms. This position is responsible for managing the ship’s linen and crew uniform inventory including receiving, issuing, reporting damage, depleting inventory, inventory counts and recommending par level top up orders, according to company policies and procedures. This position also carries out tailoring repairs and adjustments to guest clothing, linens and uniforms.
- It is your responsibility to create a friendly, guest-oriented service culture to ensure Guest satisfaction and repeat business, which in turn, will increase revenue and profitability of the company.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive, sort, wash, dry, press and fold guest laundry on a daily basis. Process associated laundry slips and guest charges.
- Receive, sort, wash, dry, press and issue specific crew uniforms.
- Receive, sort, wash, dry, press and store ship owned linen items.
- Inventory management of ship’s linen and crew uniforms namely receive, issue, report damage, deplete inventory, conduct inventory counts, recommend top up orders and assist with requisitions.
- Prepare and issue uniforms to returning crew; receive, inventory, launder and store uniforms for departing crew.
- Regenerate replacement linen from damaged items i.e. creates cleaning rags from damaged towels.
- Load and unload washers and dryers, according to Viking’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Utilize various items of laundry equipment.
- Proactively ensure work area is clean and well maintained. Regularly clean dryer ducts and laundry area.
- Report all laundry equipment damages and/or malfunctions to the Executive Housekeeper.
- Correctly handle cleaning products, materials and laundry equipment, separate & remove garbage as needed, ensuring that separation procedures and all Public Health Standards are maintained.
- Participate in “The Daily Reunion” every day to understand your team’s operational needs and to ensure consistent adherence to Viking’s STAR Service Standards.
Provide the highest level of comfort and service to Guests and consistently maintain an impeccable standard of cleanliness and hygiene in assigned areas, as per Viking’s STAR Service Standards and all Public Health Policies; proactively prepare service according to Guest flow, embarkation & disembarkation, sea day activities & other activities.
- Ensure you always wear the appropriate and task specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for your duties onboard. Always use correct lifting techniques to prevent injuries.
- Uphold impeccable grooming standards at all times by complying with Viking’s Image and Uniform Standards.
- Ensure that company property is appropriately secured and protected, especially during rough weather conditions, in order to prevent unnecessary loss or damage.
- Demonstrates outstanding flexibility: able to work at different times of the day, under pressure and reflect a positive can-do attitude and the best image of Viking at all times.
- Have strong motivation to achieve the company goals and objectives (quality and financial) for the Laundry Department.
- Have full knowledge about safety & security procedures and can operate in line with all Public Health, Environmental and Safety & Security Policies; participate in all training concerning onboard training, safety & security, fire prevention, evacuation exercises as required by the company.
- Assist in other departments and/or perform additional duties, upon instruction from supervisors

YOUR PROFILE:
- A required minimum of 2+ years experience as a laundry or similar position, ideally within a Hotel or Cruise ship laundry environment.
- Fluent in English - must be able to address any kind of information in an adequate manner with excellent oral English communication skills.
- Guest-focused, service-oriented, positive personality, professional appearance and impeccable hygiene standards are required; must be flexible and stress resistant, team player, shows commitment.
- Must demonstrate the basic ability to operate washers, dryers and a flat iron.
- Must have excellent knowledge of all Public Health Policies.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS & AT WILL EMPLOYMENT:
- Ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Ability to work as necessary in order to complete all assigned tasks and fulfill responsibilities in your assigned role.
- Ability to meet moderate physical demands, including lifting, bending, climbing, and long periods of standing or walking
- Ability to satisfactorily pass a pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for Marijuana and other controlled substances. We are a Drug Free Workplace.
