Position Overview
Pod Brooklyn is seeking a working Assistant Director of Engineering to support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and safety of the property. This role assists in overseeing building systems, preventative maintenance, vendor coordination, and engineering staff while helping ensure a safe, efficient, and well-maintained guest experience.
The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced hotel environment with a strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
Responsibilities
- Assist in managing the daily operations of the Engineering department
- Support preventative maintenance programs for guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and building systems
- Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general maintenance issues
- Help oversee engineering team scheduling, work orders, and departmental projects
- Ensure compliance with all NYC building, fire, and safety regulations
- Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors as needed
- Monitor building management systems and energy usage
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations in a timely manner
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, inspections, and compliance records
- Assist with capital improvement projects and renovations
- Support hotel operations with a strong focus on guest satisfaction and operational efficiency
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of hotel engineering or building maintenance experience
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Experience in a hotel or hospitality environment strongly preferred
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred Certifications
- FDNY S-12 and S-13 Certifications preferred
- FDNY P-98 and/or P-99 Certifications preferred
- Additional trade licenses or certifications are a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and work in mechanical spaces for extended periods
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment
