Assistant Manager - Rooftop
Position Overview
The Assistant Manager supports the General Manager in overseeing all operational aspects of a high-volume nightclub environment serving 700 guests daily. This role requires strong leadership in a fast-paced, high-energy atmosphere with emphasis on guest safety, revenue optimization, and team coordination. The Assistant Manager serves as Manager on Duty during assigned shifts and is responsible for maintaining operational standards while creating an exceptional nightlife experience.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Serve as Manager on Duty overseeing all front-of-house operations during peak service hours
Coordinate seamlessly between bar staff, servers, security, hosts, and production teams
Monitor crowd flow, capacity management, and venue atmosphere throughout the night
Execute opening and closing procedures ensuring all checklists are completed
Oversee sound, lighting, and production elements to maintain desired energy levels
Manage door operations including guest lists, will call, and queue management
VIP & Bottle Service Management
Oversee VIP table assignments, bottle service execution, and premium guest experience
Build and maintain relationships with VIP clientele, promoters, and industry professionals
Maximize bottle service revenue through strategic upselling and premium offerings
Coordinate with hosts and servers to ensure seamless VIP arrivals and service
Handle VIP requests, special occasions, and ensure elevated hospitality standards
Safety & Security Coordination
Partner with security team to maintain safe environment and handle incidents appropriately
Enforce capacity limits and fire code compliance throughout operating hours
Monitor alcohol service and intervene when guests show signs of over-intoxication
Document incidents, ejections, and safety concerns with detailed reports
Coordinate emergency response procedures and maintain communication with local authorities
Conduct security briefings and ensure team understands safety protocols
Staff Leadership & Development
Lead and motivate teams of 20-50+ staff members during high-volume shifts
Conduct pre-shift meetings covering promotions, VIP reservations, and operational updates
Train bar staff, servers, and hosts on service standards and upselling techniques
Provide real-time coaching and performance feedback during service
Participate in hiring, onboarding, and disciplinary actions as needed
Address staff conflicts and maintain positive team culture in high-pressure environment
Financial & Administrative Support
Assist with staff scheduling to optimize labor costs during peak and off-peak periods
Monitor sales performance and identify opportunities to increase per-capita spending
Process end-of-night cash reconciliation, tip distribution, and sales reporting
Review daily P&L reports including covers, revenue, and labor percentages
Assist with inventory management for bar supplies and beverage programs
Support special events, DJ performances, and promotional night planning
Guest Experience & Service Recovery
Maintain visible presence on floor to ensure guest satisfaction and address concerns
Handle guest complaints with professionalism and authority to resolve issues immediately
Create memorable experiences for guests through personalized service and attention
Manage refund requests, service failures, and dispute resolution
Build rapport with regular guests and cultivate loyal clientele base
Compliance & Regulatory Standards
Ensure compliance with all liquor licensing laws and responsible alcohol service policies
Enforce age verification procedures and prevent underage drinking violations
Maintain health department standards and sanitation protocols
Complete incident reports and maintain accurate documentation for liability purposes
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
3+ years experience in high-volume hospitality with at least 1 year in supervisory role
Nightclub, high-volume bar, or entertainment venue experience strongly preferred
Proven ability to lead teams and make quick decisions in high-pressure environments
Strong understanding of beverage operations, bottle service, and premium spirits
Excellent crisis management and conflict resolution skills
Professional demeanor with ability to interact with VIP clientele and industry professionals
Working knowledge of POS systems, cash handling, and nightclub operations software
Valid alcohol service certifications (TIPS, ServSafe Alcohol, or state equivalent)
Must be 21+ years of age
Flexible availability including nights and ability to work until 4:00 AM or later
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing venues with 500+ capacity and high-volume bottle service programs
Established relationships with promoters, DJs, talent buyers, or entertainment industry contacts
Background in event production, lighting, or sound systems
Advanced beverage knowledge including mixology, craft cocktails, and premium spirits
Social media savvy and understanding of nightlife marketing
