An Assistant Property Manager supports the day-to-day operations of a residential property, working closely with the Senior Property Manager to ensure smooth, professional service for residents and prospective tenants alike. This role blends resident relations, leasing support, maintenance coordination, and administrative work into one dynamic position — ideal for someone starting a career in real estate or who wants to take their hospitality career to the next level.

On the resident relations side, the role serves as a front-line point of contact, addressing inquiries and resolving complaints promptly across phone, email, and in-person interactions. On the leasing and marketing side, it involves guiding prospective tenants from first inquiry through property tours, keeping online listings current, and maintaining accurate records of applications, move-ins, and move-outs.

The role also supports property upkeep — coordinating maintenance requests, conducting regular inspections for safety and cleanliness, and managing vendor relationships and supply inventory. Administratively, it involves maintaining lease agreements, rent payment records, and communication logs, plus general support for the Property Manager.

Ideal candidates bring a bachelor's degree, strong communication and organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and a customer-service mindset — no prior property management experience required, as comprehensive training is provided.

Responsibilities:

Resident Relations: Assist in maintaining positive relationships with residents by addressing inquiries, concerns, and requests in a timely and professional manner via email, phone and in person.
Act as a point of contact for resident complaints, resolving issues promptly and effectively.

Leasing and Marketing: Provide excellent customer service to prospective tenants, from the first contact, through the property tour, and afterwards.
Be friendly and courteous.
Maintain online listings and monitor advertising platforms.
Maintain accurate records of rental applications, move-ins, and move-outs.

Property Maintenance: Assist in coordinating maintenance requests and work orders to ensure prompt resolution.
Conduct regular property inspections to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with safety and cleanliness standards.
Assist in maintaining inventory of supplies and coordinating vendor relationships.

Administrative Duties: Assist with maintaining accurate resident records, including lease agreements, rent payments, and communication logs.
Support the Property Manager with general administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 4 year college degree required.
  • Prior experience in customer service, hospitality, or property management required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong customer service orientation.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

As an Entry-Level Property Manager, you will receive comprehensive training and support to develop your skills. This is an excellent opportunity to launch your career in the real estate industry and grow within a reputable company.

Keener Management

About the company

Keener Management was founded in 1984 with a single townhouse in Dupont Circle. We have grown exponentially, but our attention to detail, our commitment to quality, and our conviction of service and integrity has never wavered.

We manage more than 2,100 apartments across eighteen buildings in eight of Washington's most desirable neighborhoods — buildings developed by Keener-Squire Properties and held by the same family ownership since the firm's beginnings. We don't flip portfolios. We don't sell to the highest bidder. We keep the buildings, and we keep the people.

Our 80-person team spans property managers, maintenance and cleaning personnel, and the front desk attendants who remember a resident's name on day one. The person who rents you the apartment is the same one greeting you on your way home from work each day.

Principles

Quality. We invest tremendous amounts of time, energy and money to maintain our apartment buildings at the highest standards.

Service. Our 80+ employees work hard every day to provide our residents with excellent customer service. From our building maintenance team through our management team, we are here to serve our residents in a courteous and professional manner.

Integrity. Our dedication to integrity is all-consuming. We spend a great deal of time thinking about the right way, the ethical way, to resolve any issues that arise. We pride ourselves on treating our residents as we would like to be treated.
