JOB OVERVIEW:

The Assistant Director of Security will support the Director of Security and Compliance in the effective administration of The Westin Anaheim Resort’s security, accident and theft prevention, emergency/disaster planning, fire and earthquake safety and parking structure operations. This role will effectively ensure the safety of guests, employees, and property while maintaining compliance with hotel policies and brand standards. In the Director’s absence, they would manage security personnel and provide leadership with a warm and hospitable environment while ensuring safety and security.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patrol hotel property to ensure the safety of guests and employees and to protect all resort assets.  Answer house calls, assist guests and employees with respect to safety, security and hotel operations.  Initiate and follow up all investigations of crimes committed against property and persons.  Assist sick and injured guests and employees, ensuring documentation and disposition of reports.
  • Assist the Director of Security with daily operations of the security department including the scheduling and delegation of tasks for security personnel. Assists in directing and supervising security staff. Coaches staff on areas of improvement. Assists in the evaluation of all security staff and provides constructive feedback on their work.
  • Assist the Director of Security with overseeing the performance of the security department to establish and maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service
  • Provide recommendations to the Director of security regarding improving the resort’s safety and security programs.
  • Support with establishing, implementing, and maintaining workplace safety programs in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA standards and company safety policies
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, hazard assessments, and risk evaluations
  • Identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and take corrective action
  • Support the Director by leading and documenting safety meetings, drills, and training sessions
  • Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents
  • Support in the development and recommendation of preventive measures to reduce workplace injuries
  • Coordinate fire, life-safety, and emergency preparedness programs
  • Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and compliance documentation
  • Support in the oversight of the workers’ compensation process for employee injuries and illnesses
  • Ensure prompt reporting of all workplace injuries and incident
  • Support the Director with communication with employees, management, insurance carriers, and claims administrators
  • Work closely with the Director in monitoring workers’ compensation claims, trends, and resolution strategies
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and injury prevention
  • Serves as second in command in the absence of the Director of Security.
  • Support and participate in workplace investigationsincluding employee incidents, guest complaints, policy violations, and safety concerns
  • Conduct and assist with camera reviewsrelated to accidents, theft, security inquiries, and policy violations.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports and investigative summaries with findings and recommendations
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to support the business needs of the hotel.  In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and departmental meetings is required.
  • Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with The Westin Anaheim Resort rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel’s facilities.  Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Spend more than 50% of working time performing management responsibilities, such as directing the work of two or more employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.                    
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must possess basic computational ability.
  • Knowledge of hotel policy and fire-safety procedures.
  • Ability to operate hand held two-way radio and knowledge of ten codes.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks.

Physical Demands: 

  • Most work tasks are performed indoors.  Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems.
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Must be able to push and pull equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. in an emergency.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other departments and locations of the hotel and outside the hotel on hotel grounds on a timely basis.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
  • Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, 10-key adding machine, electric typewriter, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, FAX machines, photocopiers, dolly and other office equipment as needed. 

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS: 

 Education

High school or equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Experience

Minimum of two-year security management experience required.

Licenses or Certificates

Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits. Current CPR certification and First Aid training required.  Must have a CA Guard Card. Must have a valid California driver license. The position will be required to drive company vehicles from time to time.

All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per the Westin Anaheim Resort’s uniform and grooming standards.
