Job Title: Controller

Position Summary: The Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for multiple (4-6) hotel properties managed by the company. This role ensures financial
statements, strong internal controls, compliance with GAAP, brand standards, and management agreements, while providing leadership to the accounting team and strategic financial
insight to ownership and executive management.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting
- Maintain general ledger accounts for assigned hotel properties
- Record and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
- Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheets accounts, and credit card activity
- Prepare monthly and annual financial close for all managed hotel properties
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of reporting across the portfolio
Hospitality-Specific Accounting
- Review daily revenue reports, night audit summaries, and cash reconciliations
- Monitor labor costs, departmental expenses, and operating margins
- Ensure compliance with management agreements and brand standards
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Oversee and review vendor invoices and check requests
- Ensure proper coding of operating expenses
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of accounts payable, receivable, and payroll entries
- Assist with accounts receivable, including management fees and inter-company charges
- Standardize accounting processes and improve efficiencies across properties
Taxes & Compliance
- Prepare and file required sales, use, and occupancy tax returns
- Assist with audits, lender reporting, and brand-required submissions
- Maintain documentation to support internal controls and compliance
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
- Prepare consolidated financial reports for ownership and executive leadership
- Analyze financial results and explain variances to budgets and forecasts
- Assist in budget preparation and forecast updates
Provide financial insight and recommendations to improve profitability
Systems & Technology
- Oversee accounting systems and financial reporting tools
- Lead system implementations, upgrades, and process improvements
- Ensure proper integration between property-level systems and corporate accounting platforms
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 4+years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior hospitality or multi-property accounting experience strongly preferred
- Experience working with owners, auditors, and lenders
Skills & Knowledge
- Expert knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Experience with hotel accounting systems (M3, QuickBooks, or similar)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based in Forsyth, IL, with regular interaction with hotel ownership, property leadership, and corporate staff. The role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
