Area Director of Sales

Job Summary

We are seeking a driven and results-oriented Area Director of Sales responsible for expanding our catering business and corporate transient market share for Spark Bensalem and Hampton Inn & Suites Bensalem. This role focuses heavily on proactive selling, relationship building, and market development that elevates both hotels’ revenue performance.

Key Responsibilities

Catering Sales Growth

  • Develop and execute a focused catering sales strategy to grow local social, corporate, and small-group events.
  • Identify and target catering demand generators (businesses, associations, universities, hospitals, government offices, sports organizations).
  • Partner with local caterers for outside catered events.
  • Conduct proactive outreach—including site tours, client entertainment, cold calling, and community engagement—to increase catering leads and close event business.
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline for meeting room rentals, small meetings, and food & beverage-supported events.
  • Collaborate closely with operations to ensure seamless event execution, client satisfaction, and repeat business.

Corporate Transient Business Development

  • Actively prospect and secure new local negotiated corporate accounts that align with brand and rate strategy.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to all RFPs, ensuring accurate and competitive submissions.
  • Monitor production trends of top transient corporate accounts and adjust selling strategies accordingly.
  • Strengthen relationships with key companies to maximize room-night production and year-round demand.
  • Sales Strategy & Market Leadership
  • Analyze market data, competitive intelligence, and demand trends to identify new revenue opportunities.
  • Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual sales plans focusing on catering and corporate transient growth.
  • Create and execute tactical plans when market penetration goals are not being met.

Pipeline Management & Reporting

  • Maintain an active and organized sales solicitation program, ensuring consistent follow-up and account engagement.
  • Prepare weekly sales reports, revenue updates, and activity summaries for General Managers and corporate leadership.
  • Track catering and transient production, evaluate performance, and recommend adjustments to meet or exceed revenue goals.

Operational Collaboration

  • Partner with General Managers to align sales strategies with overall hotel objectives.
  • Support asset management initiatives and contribute to improving each hotel’s competitive market position.
  • Participate in hotel site tours, revenue meetings, and client events as required.

Keys to Success

  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Proven success in catering and/or corporate transient hotel sales
  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent negotiation, prospecting, and relationship-building abilities
  • Effective at data interpretation, competitive analysis, and strategy execution
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office and Outlook/Gmail
  • Delphi and STS  experience is a plus
  • Hilton experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of the local Bensalem/Philadelphia market is advantageous
