How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

The Manager, Weddings, Corporate Meetings & Event Services provides leadership and guidance in the planning, management, and delivery of TRCA’s weddings, social, corporate, and internal events at The Village at Black Creek and the Kortright Centre for Conservation. This position is responsible for oversight of strategic business growth planning, revenue and budget management and ensuring TRCA events reflect the TRCA brand and support strategic priorities.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team through the prioritization, planning and execution of TRCA’s wedding, social, corporate meeting, event services, while incorporating client/vendor input and feedback and measuring key performance indicators.
  • Manages and oversees the delivery of TRCA’s wedding, corporate meeting, event services, ensuring effective communication, collaboration and coordination with all internal and external stakeholders, appropriate budget planning and reporting, and adherence to event’s requirements and policies
  • Develops and reviews detailed strategic financial and business plans to execute events successfully and grow revenue opportunities for TRCA through the wedding, social, and corporate events businesses and ensure TRCA’s pricing, venue and event packages are competitive and targeted revenues are met
  • Develops policies, procedures and event-specific guidelines to ensure compliance with event requirements, including safety, licensing, certifications, client and vendor agreements and contracts and liability compliance
  • Arranges and participates in meetings with various internal and external stakeholders to promote TRCA’s event venues and develop marketing and advertising plans and materials
  • Leads a team of staff and ensures that team members understand expectations; communicates schedule, tasks and discusses priorities of items
  • Supports onboarding and provides on the job training and support as needed for individuals; also identifies any gaps in or potential improvement areas for training, development, process, resources, or procedures
  • Manages employee performance and individual team performance
  • Ensures business processes are streamlined, documented and cascaded to team members
  • Ensures staff/volunteers/contractors, as applicable, comply with health & safety policies, and other TRCA policies, as applicable in various work environments

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)

  • University degree in Hospitality, Food Services, Event management, Marketing or a related discipline
  • Valid Ontario Class G2 driver's license

Experience

  • 5 + years experience in the field of hospitality, food service, event/venue sales or event management
  • 2+ years of progressive managerial, supervisory, or project management experience

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies

  • Knowledge in communication planning, event management and best practices
  • Knowledge of Food & Beverage service and banquet operations / set up;
  • Applied knowledge in event budget planning and reporting
  • Strong sales and presentation skills
  • Effective problem-solving skills and leadership skills, including staff coaching and managing performance and working collaboratively with other divisions
  • Identifies new opportunities for developing new internal and external customer bases
  • Ability to use critical thinking to evaluate problems, gather information, understand causes, and identify the best possible solutions
  • Strong budget management and cost control skills; able to address variances and manage ongoing risks while managing multiple deadlines / work processes
  • Must be flexible to work all required shifts, including weekends and holidays
