Located in the heart of downtown Providence, Rhode Island, the 294-room Graduate Providence is a landmark hotel with an illustrious past. Overview

The Laundry Attendant is responsible for handling and sending out all housekeeping linen to the outside laundry service. The attendant is also responsible for the receipt and distribution of all housekeeping linen that arrives back from the outside laundry service and must ensure that the clean linen is available for use by the hotel's departments when needed.

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities :

Knowledge of cleanliness standards.

Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service oriented manner.

Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and nametag while working.

Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel

Comply at all times with Highgate standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.

Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times. Be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers and fellow employees.

Wash, dry, fold, sort and store any linen needing emergency processing

Count linen daily and keep a record of what linen goes out and what linen comes in by cart count.

Inspect the quality of linens. Sort out and count discarded linen.

Sort all dirty linen coming down the dirty linen chute into its appropriate linen bins. Terry verses sheets.

Size and stack sheets for distribution to guest floors

Responsible for the delivery of all laundry bins with the dirty linen to the first floor designated loading area for pick ups.

Responsible for the receipt of all laundry bins with clean linen. Once received must deliver the clean linen to the appropriate satellite closet throughout the Hotel.

Properly stock and organize linen in each satellite closet.

Maintain the dirty linen chute room and ensure the laundry room is clean and organized on a daily basis.

Report all lost & found items to the Housekeeping Supervisor immediately

Promptly report any deficiencies and maintenance needs in work area

Immediately report all suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions

Handle, store and label all hazardous substances according to state and federal regulations

Maintain cleanliness and safety of work areas at all times

Practice safe work habits at all times to avoid injury to self and others

Other duties as required

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Qualification Standards

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Experience in a hotel or a related field preferred

Able to follow simple verbal and written instructions

Able to read and understand chemical labels

Bilingual helpful but not required

Physical Requirements

Long hours sometimes required

Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and /or 50 pounds (and higher) of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Must be able to push/pull full linen bins on wheels weighing up to 500 lbs.

Must be able to pull/lift/sort dirty linen exerting up to 50 lbs. of force

Must be able to stand and walk moderate to long distance throughout shift. Bends, stoops, reaches to perform routine job tasks.

Ability to work in heat

Stock housekeeping carts daily

Wash linen according the housekeeping needs thru the day

Deliver supplies thru the day to the room attendants.

Sweep and clean laundry

Mental Requirements

Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly and have good verbal communication skills

Must have high quality standards for production with a customer service focus

Must be organized and efficient

Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately

Must work well in stressful, high pressure situations

Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by co-workers and guests

Must be a good team player

Must be able to work productively with little to no supervision

Must be trustworthy and reliable
