We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced hospitality professional to join our team at the beautiful newly renovated Doubletree by Hilton Washington DC North/Gaithersburg as a Director of Catering & Conference Services who can help lead the property to sustainable success.

The DoubleTree Gaithersburg is in search of a Director of Catering & Conference Services.  The hotel is newly renovated in 2020 including all meeting space, guestrooms, public areas, restaurant, and lounge. We are excited to showcase our much anticipated renovation to the public and we are looking for an inspiring, authentic and determined leader to join us in our journey!


Exceptional communications skills where you are able to negotiate, convince, sell and influence professionals and hotel guests. The ability to communicate and work with a diverse clientele is a plus. Advanced knowledge of catering, hospitality, and food and beverage industries is expected. This position requires fast-paced full mobility, with occasional lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds. Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply. Flexible scheduling and the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed is necessary.


  • Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in directing a hotel catering department.
  • A minimum of 2 years catering experience with large brand is preferred.
  • Previous Hilton experience is a plus.
  • A strong working knowledge of Delphi FDC is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is a plus.

Job Requirements


What will I be doing? As a Director of Catering & Conference Services, you will report to the Director of Sales & Marketing, and would be responsible for booking and coordinating catering operations in the hotel's continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability. Specifically, you would be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards: 


  • Manage the catering sales efforts for the hotel, solicit/book local catering business including, but not limited to weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, quinceaneras, corporate events.
  • Assist in detailing all catering events associated with group business bookings (ie: student tour groups, sports teams, corporate meetings, etc)
  • Serve as the primary liaison between catering sales and the operations team, effectively communicating event needs through BEO’s, event resumes and other communication methods
  • Assist in development and implementation of catering sales revenue and operation budgets, and provides forecasting reports.
  • Assist in development and implementation of a comprehensive advertising, social media and PR plan to ultimately uncover new revenue opportunities.
  • Develop and implements a trade show, special event, public event and targeted industry events plan, introducing new business to the hotel.
  • Work with the management team to create and implement a catering sales/marketing plan addressing revenue, guests and market.
  • Develop creative menus that drive sales.
  • Assist with the development, selling, implementation and follow-through of catering promotions.
  • Participate in and practices daily service basics of the brand.
  • Coordinate and deploy catering sales resources on-property to establish pull-through and sustainment of catering sales strategies and selling solutions. Develop a close working relationship with operations to execute strategies at the hotel level.
  • Verify that the property implements a seamless turnover from sales to operations and back to sales while consistently delivering high level of service.
  • Monitor the effective resolution of guest issues that arise because of the sales process by creating mechanisms to channel issues to property leadership and/or other appropriate stakeholders.
  • Maintain successful performance by increasing revenues, controlling expenses.
  • Implement the brand’s service strategy and applicable brand initiatives in all aspects of the sales process.
  • Interacts effectively with guests/clients, sales, culinary and banquet divisions, vendors, competitors, local community, catering associations and other hotel departments in order to drive sales and monitor guest satisfaction.
  • Executes exemplary guest service to drive guest satisfaction and loyalty by assisting the guest and monitoring their satisfaction before and during their event.
  • Gains understanding of the hotel’s primary target guest and service expectations; serves the guest by understanding their business, business issues and concerns, to offer better business solution both prior to, and during the event.
  • Lead on-property catering sales process to achieve hotel revenue goals by proactively targeting current and new high value accounts in the market and implementing effective catering sales deployment strategies to grow market share.
  • Support tools and training resources to educate sales associates on winning catering solutions.
  • Champion leadership development and workforce planning priorities by assessing, selecting, retaining and developing diverse, high-caliber talent that can lead the organization today and strengthen the leadership bench for the future; continues to upgrade the sales & marketing talent; works with HR to anticipate future talent needs based on business growth plans.
  • Identify, train and mentor catering sales/conference services managers.
  • Transfer functional knowledge and develop catering sales skills of other discipline managers.
  • Share responsibility for achieving revenue goals, guest and associate satisfaction and the financial performance of the department.
  • Champion all catering and convention services operations to include, but not limited to, guest service, soliciting new accounts, negotiating contracts, merchandising and marketing, planning, event execution, cost control implementation, systems management, budget and forecasting, department management and meeting participation and facilitation.


  • Respond to a high volume of incoming catering opportunities including e-mails, walk-ins, phone calls and wedding website inquiries.
  • Booking, selling, planning and coordinating events with a special focus on weddings, and social events while assuring the highest level of customer service.
  • Execute contracts and BEO’s, prepare invoices for daily events and ensure timeliness of final payments and deposits.
  • Execute and support the operational aspects of business booked (e.g., generating proposal, writing contract, guest correspondence).
  • Understand the overall wedding and social market, competitor’s strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand, and how to sell against them.
  • Works directly with clients and wedding planners gathering necessary information for menu planning, floor plans, room set-up, timeliness, rental orders, décor, cost, and billing details and any other requirements pertinent to their event in a timely      manner and assist with those items as necessary.
  • Interacts effectively with all departments within the hotel to ensure guest satisfaction and a positive work environment.
  • Assists in organizing on-site bridal events and attend outside bridal shows.
  • Assists with maintaining social media sites including but not limited to the hotel website, Facebook, Wedding Wire and The Knot. Follow up appropriately with past appointments and report any issues and/or client inquiries to the Director of Sales.
