Job Description

Floor Manager – Society Cafe

Walker Hotel Greenwich Village is seeking an experienced Floor Manager for its newly opened Society Cafe.  Chef Christopher Zabita (formally of Bar Boulud and Marc Forgione) creates an elevated market-to-table American menu around his passion for local produce, sustainable seafood and farm-raised proteins.  

The right candidate for this position is “hospitality forward” with the unique skill set to motivate and educate the supporting staff to execute a memorable guest experience.

It is essential that all applicants strive to maintain a profitable food and beverage operation by utilizing their skill set in labor management while building customer loyalty through warm hospitable service. 

  • Engage all team members by hosting pre-shift meetings with a focus on the standards of service, detailed menu descriptions, large parties and VIP guests.
  • Support servers and food runners by accompanying them to tables while overseeing their quality of service.  Coach them on their success as well as areas of improvement. 
  • Inspect the dining room including but not limited to staff uniforms, table tops, glassware, flatware, etc to ensure quality control. Oversee side work and train when necessary.
  • Ensure all health code department standards are being met and restaurant and bar is in code at all times.
  • Engage all customers on arrival, during the meal and on departure.  Record guest preferences, update profile and encourage reviews. Collect emails and/or contact information for post experience follow-up and survey.
  • Utilize Opentable.com to manage tables, customer preferences and future reservations.  
Job Requirements

Must be effective at listening to, understanding and clarifying concerns raised by team members and guests.

Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.

Approach all encounters with guests and team members in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.

Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.

Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming.

Comply with Walker Hotel standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.

Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.

Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.

Must be able to understand and evaluate complex information, data, etc from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality of all information.

Food Handler's License. 

Education & Experience

All candidates should have at least 3 years of progressive supervisory or managerial experience in a full-service, fine dining or culinary focused restaurant.

Minimum 2-year college degree

Catering; event producing experience or strong Beverage background a plus.
