Job Description

The Server is responsible for providing prompt, courteous service for the guest.

THE HOLIDAY INN WORLD’S FAIR PARK Hotel Server/Food Runner is a professional individual who can uphold a gracious, thoughtful, polite, and polished culture of service. The Server/Food Runner serves guest while exceeding expectations and providing a memorable, luxury dining experience.  The Server/Food Runner must anticipate guest’s needs, communicate effectively, and work closely with the entire Team to ensure a flawless dining experience.


  • Servers/Food Runners greet and welcome guests as they arrive in accordance with the standards of THE HOLIDAY INN WORLD’S FAIR PARK Hotel
  • Servers/Food Runners seat guests and present menus (menus must be presented open to the guest)
  • Servers/Food Runners explain daily specials
  • Servers/Food Runners maintain a detailed knowledge of the menu items and ingredients
  • Servers/Food Runners must relay any and all allergies or food sensitivities to ALL team members Servers/Food Runners provide suggestions and recommendations for dining to guests
  • Servers/Food Runners maintain knowledge of any items the kitchen may be out of or running low on
  • Servers/Food Runners take guest food and beverage orders and relay orders to the kitchen staff using the appropriate POS system (MICROS)
  • Severs/Food Runners communicate effectively with kitchen staff regarding meal requirements, allergies, dietary needs, and specific requests
  • Servers/Food Runners prepare drink orders that are not handled by the bar
  • Servers/Food Runners serve wine, beer, and other alcoholic beverages in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Servers/Food Runners ensure all food is plated and portioned correctly before delivering to the guest
  • Servers/Food Runners are responsible for transporting food and beverage from the kitchen to the dining room
  • Servers/Food Runners ensure guest satisfaction throughout the dining experience
  • Servers/Food Runners anticipate and communicate guest replenishment needs
  • Servers/Food Runners are responsible for removing dirty dishes and glasses
  • Servers/Food Runners bus and clean tables after guests finish their meals/beverages
  • Servers/Food Runners prepare an itemized check and take payment from guest.  Servers/Food Runners are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the check prior to presentation to a guest.
  • Servers/Food Runners use the guest’s name whenever possible
  • Money handling duties:  count bank at end of shift, complete designated cashier reports, resolve any discrepancies, drop off receipts, and secure bank.
  • Servers/Food Runners report all tips in accordance to all laws, policies, procedures, and standards
  • Servers/Food Runners set up and maintain cleanliness and condition of the dining room.  Maintenance and Housekeeping issues are reported to the appropriate Supervisor or Manager. 
  • Servers/Food Runners are responsible for removing soiled wares from tables and placing them in designated areas
  • Servers/Food Runners are responsible for cleaning/sanitizing and resetting all tables
  • Servers/Food Runners ensure the server station is well stocked
  • Servers/Food Runners are responsible for completing side work and closing duties
  • Servers/Food Runners maintain a continuous and positive relationship with other departments in order to guarantee that guests are receiving quality services that exceed their expectations
  • Servers/Food Runners must uphold the culture and standards of THE HOLIDAY INN WORLD’S FAIR PARK Hotel and be exemplary ambassadors of the property and brand at all times
  • Servers/Food Runners participate in all line-ups and departmental meetings, unless otherwise excused in advance by a Manager or Supervisor
  • Servers/Food Runners remain knowledgeable of all hotel information and local events
  • Servers/Food Runners are responsible for completing any training certifications or retraining as directed by a Manager or Human Resources
  • Servers/Food Runners must maintain an active ABC card at all times


Servers/Food Runners are considered Front of House team members.

  • Servers/Food Runners interact face to face with guests.

Job Description:


  • Greet and welcome guests as they arrive
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of Window’s on The Park Menu
  • Responsible for taking guest orders
  • Serve food and beverages in accordance with the standards of THE HOLIDAY INN WORLD’S FAIR PARK Hotel
  • Responsible for guest satisfaction
  • Maintain cleanliness of all workplace areas that apply to the Window’s on The Park
  • Must be in accordance with the Appearance Standards Policy of THE HOLIDAY INN WORLD’S FAIR PARK Hotel at all times
  • Complete any reasonable task as assigned by a Supervisor or Manager


  • Reports to: The Window’s on the Park Manager
  • Key Relationships: Bartenders, Guest Services, Housekeeping, Engineering


  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, team members, and Management
  • High School degree or equivalent required
  • Minimum 2 years of server experience
  • Minimum 1 year fine dining or luxury resort experience preferred
  • Liquor, beer, wine, and spirits knowledge
  • Ability to obtain an ABC card
  • Fluent in a foreign language preferred
  • Must be able to physically perform all tasks assigned
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Must be able to understand and follow instructions
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and irregular shifts
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work closely with others


  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task, even during times of high stress
  • Basic computer skills and experience with POS systems (MICROS preferred)
  • Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy
  • Ability to follow-through and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to physically perform all assigned tasks
  • Ability to maintain and uphold all company and hotel standards
  • Ability to professionally represent “THE HOLIDAY INN WORLD’S FAIR PARK Hotel” while presenting a warm, professional, and refined demeanor with guests and fellow team members
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of all hotel features, information, and local events
  • Ability to ensure the security and confidentially of all guest information and internal
