POSITION PURPOSE


As a Server at Lela restaurant, you will be an ambassador for the exceptional service and cuisine that are hallmarks of our dining experience. Your warm, personal attention and knowledge of our outstanding Food and Beverage offerings will make guests at Lela feel unique and valued.


 


SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


Candidates for this position must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills and abilities.


 



  • The Ideal candidate will have:

    • 2-3 years of experience as a server in a free standing/independent restaurant

    • 2-3 years of experience in upscale dining establishments or high-end corporate style restaurants

    • previous experience opening a standalone restaurant(s)




 



  • The candidate must be able to:

    • serve food and beverage items in a friendly, enthusiastic, professional, and timely manner

    • focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

    • demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of (or the ability to thoroughly learn) the POS systems in order to enter orders quickly and in the correct sequence




 



  • The candidate must have a strong understanding of the following:

    • food preparations and cooking styles

    • a variety of different types of cuisine

    • suggestive and upselling techniques




 



  • The candidate must have a strong understanding of the following:

    • alcoholic beverages and beverage service

    • wines and able to speak to varietals and regions

    • premium spirits




 



  • The candidate must:

    • have an excellent service attitude

    • be highly responsible and reliable




 



  • The candidate must have a strong desire to learn and understand new food and beverage systems, techniques and procedures, to include, but not limited to, craft beverages, wines, wine systems (coravin)


 



  • The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of modern food and beverage trends within the Minneapolis market


 


 


 


 


 



  • The candidate must have the ability to:

    • work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment

    • multi-task and manage several items at one time

    • work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team

    • utilize excellent organization skills to work efficiently and effectively

    • adapt and handle change in a professional manner




 



  • The candidate must have excellent grooming and presentation standards


 



  • The candidate must:

    • be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace

    • have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written




 



  • The candidate must be able to pass all training tests within the two-week training period


 



  • The candidate must show strong scheduling flexibility


 



  • The candidate must be able to be on the feet for extended long periods of time


 



  • The candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 20 lbs.


 


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: AVERAGE % OF TIME  


60%        Take orders for and serve all food and beverage requests using suggestive selling techniques. Clear tables during service and control guest check and secure proper payment. Ensure station and table set-ups are complete and perform various side duties as assigned.


 


20%        Ensure station and table set-ups are complete and perform various side duties as assigned by the restaurant leaders.


 


20%       Maintain proper condition and cleanliness of dining areas and equipment.


 


 


OTHER:


Regular attendance in conformance with the standards is essential to the successful performance of this position. Associates with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.


 


Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the restaurant. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.


 


Upon employment, all associates are required to comply fully with restaurant and hotel rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the facilities. Associates who violate the restaurant and hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment
