Job Summary – (Role Summary)

The Global Head of Instructional Design will create a dedicated instructional design team at IHG to resource the creation of new learning content for existing and new channels enabled by the learning technology upgrade, optimize the curriculum framework, build out training design standards of excellence for the entire business, and leverage learner experience and content creation best practice to establish learning pathways and curriculum strategies for priority content and audience areas. Align global, and local learning content creation approach and solutions and lead the content creation team for Global Learning COE. Oversee the design and development of performance enhancing training programs and tools across all regions and stakeholder areas. Manage production of training materials when vendors are involved. Function as subject matter expert for instructional design and learner experience. Expected outcomes include improvement in speed, consistency, and quality of content creation/instructional design, improved learning COE service level perception by regional and global stakeholders and compliance with new ways of working across learning.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities


* Selection and implementation of IHG instructional design tools, systems, and processes
* Development of IHG instructional design standards of excellence
* Oversee development of strategy to store, distribute and implement IHG content creation/training design standards of excellence across all of IHG.
* Development of vendor management approach across all IHG for content creation tools and content creation providers.
* Oversee creation and execution of strategy to optimize curriculum and learning pathways for priority content and audiences.
* Develop learner experience strategies influencing content creation and channel selection for learning interventions.
* Lead annual content and audience prioritization process for learning.
* Oversee creation and maintenance of training materials using established training methodology including both participant and leader formats, in accordance with all regions and stakeholder specifications (such as Instructor led workshops, e-learning, virtual learning, mobile learning, gamification, video, etc.).
* Identification, interpretation and implementation of key external benchmarks, leading learning design and learner experience trends and best practice that can be applied to IHG learning solutions.
* Direct the Global Learning Instructional Design CoE team, providing the direction, inspiration and high standards of excellence required from a global CoE. Coach and develop capability within the CoE and in the wider population.
* Provide recommendations on training approaches and strategies, design methodologies and training distribution and measurement/evaluation of training content.
* Create global and regional documentation and performance enhancing training tools, incorporating strategic use of systems/products into training documentation.
* Direct the development of training programs with 3rd party vendors. Collaborate across functions to develop specifications for each initiative, including but not limited to selection of target audience, creative approach; review/recommend changes for the training products.
* Liaise with global and regional learning teams and stakeholders in areas such as needs assessments, collaborate on training content development and feedback solicitation.
* Partner with global key stakeholders and Business Leaders to identify and create a best-in-class learning approach that balances regional needs and priorities with global consistency and alignment
* Conduct analyses to understand the needs of the business, develop and report on key metrics to determine the effectiveness of initiatives
* Understand the core capabilities needed to deliver Great Hotels Guests Love and target training and development resources at the priority gaps in our capability
* Direct programs within agreed budget, and select and manage external consultants or manage the deployment of internal consultants as needed
* As a member of the Global Learning leadership team, work with the VP global learning to support an integrated approach to the execution of the IHG learning strategy.



Band 5

Competitive salary plus bonus potential

Education – Bachelor's or Master's Degree (preferred) in Instructional Design, Organizational Development, Learning or a relevant field of work, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.



Experience – 10 or more year’s progressive work related experience in instructional design and performance consulting with demonstrated proficiency in training content development for complex systems and organizations.


* Significant progressive work-related experience in managing and directing the development and delivery of global learning or organization development programs in a multi-unit organization
* Broad understanding of people strategy, including the drivers of organization effectiveness and the links to talent management and learning
* Demonstrated experience in the use of learning analytics to drive strategic insight and support effective decision making
* Wider experience outside the learning and development field, in a broader HR role or in another function is desirable



Technical Skills and Knowledge –
* Global mindset
* Demonstrated proficiency in designing and delivering effective training programs
* Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and understanding of training design principles and practices; and adult learning theory (Addie, SAM, E-learning/Video industry principles)
* Demonstrated understanding of learning authoring tools (Adobe Captivate, Adobe InDesign, Articulate Storyline, Camtasia)
* Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills including strong facilitation skills and ability to communicate information to groups in a clear and concise manner
* Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills including ability to coach and deliver feedback in a constructive manner to remote staff
* Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills
* Demonstrated consulting skills for the purpose of advising functions, regions, and learning team.
* Demonstrate project management expertise in organizing, planning and executing large-scale, complex projects from conception through implementation.
* Demonstrated ability to build performance consulting skillset in teams.
* Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
