Position Description:

The ideal candidate for General Manager, Embassy Suites Des Moines, will lead, supervise, and direct the operations and financial performance of a high-performing, metropolitan downtown hotel with annual revenues in excess of $14M. The General Manager will be responsible for fostering the Atrium Hospitality culture to deliver an excellent guest and associate experience. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate looking to expand not only their brand-level experience but their sales and/or operational experience as well. 1. Develop short and long-term financial and operational plans for the hotel which support the overall objectives of the company. Prepare the annual hotel budget.
2. Ensure property labor standards and budgets are being met.
3. Manage consistent profitability of the hotel, ensuring that revenue and guest satisfaction targets are met and exceeded.
4. Monitor the performance of the hotel through verification and analysis of guest satisfaction systems and monthly financial reports.
5. Maintain product and service quality standards by conducting ongoing evaluations, investigating complaints, and initiating corrective actions.
6. Develop new programs that result in an increased level of guest satisfaction and operational excellence.
7. Monitor all guest service standards, constantly seeking ways to improve products and services, as well as increase volumes and profits.
8. Oversee the development of innovative programs resulting in increased guest satisfaction and operational excellence. Receive and resolve guest inquiries in a timely manner.
9. Create and maintain a customer-driven hotel with a customer-keeping vision that inspires associates to excel.
10. Tour and visually inspect the property on a daily basis. Monitor property condition, cleanliness, cost control, and quality of product and service throughout hotel.
11. Establish and maintain applicable preventative maintenance programs to protect the physical assets of the hotel.
12. Maintain a security function to protect the assets of the hotel and the personal safety of employees and guests.
13. Assist Human Resources with making sure that associates conform and comply with Atrium Hospitality’s policies.
14. Interview, hire, train, conduct performance evaluations, resolve problems, provide open communication and recommend discipline and/or termination when appropriate.
15. Develop and train staff through corporate and brand training programs.
16. Oversee transient and package advertising opportunities, and ensure hotel participation in brand-specific programs.
17. Participate in community affairs and maintain a positive public image for the property and Atrium Hospitality.
18. Meet with potential and current clients to promote the hotel.
19. Active involvement in the Sales and Revenue Management function including, but not limited to: following Atrium Key Meeting SOPs (Rev Max, Hot Prospects, Sales Strategy Meeting), involvement in group site inspections and group closing process, review results from ESS/MPSI Measurement Tool.
20. Implement and maintain local and national sales/marketing programs.
21. Guide other members of the Executive Committee, Management and associates to make sound business decisions.
22. Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

1. Minimum of 10 years prior General Manager, brand-level experience at a full-service hotel, preferably one located in a major metropolitan location.
2. Must have a demonstrated track record of strong food and beverage business acumen necessary to oversee a $2.5M - $4M budget.
3. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be capable of serving as a positive change agent at the property, community and company level.
4. Prior experience working with management companies with a similar platform to Atrium Hospitality’s is a plus.

The Embassy Suites Des Moines is a 234-room, all-suite downtown hotel. It is the closest hotel to the Iowa State Capitol campus, is in very close proximity to the federal and state courthouses, and is also adjacent to and receives a significant amount of business from events held at both the Civic Center of Des Moines as well as the Iowa Events Center. Guests of this hotel also enjoy the variety of trendy eateries, shopping and nightlife in the Historic East Village and Court Avenue Entertainment District that this hotel location is privileged to offer.
