Position Description:

The Event Sales Manager is responsible for handling banquet and/or local social catering opportunities for the property including Weddings, Small Association Groups & Sports Groups. The incumbent is responsible for contracting and closing banquet and/or local catering and social business, and ensure that business is turned over properly and in a timely fashion for quality service delivery. The position is responsible for achieving and exceeding the hotel revenue goals by actively up-selling each business opportunity to maximize revenue.

* Participate in the required company standard meetings, including but not limited to daily Sales/operations stand up meeting, daily operations meeting, daily business review meeting, weekly Banquet Event Order meetings, pre/post-convention meetings, weekly one-on-one with each sales manager, and weekly staff/Executive Committee meeting.

* Respond to incoming catering opportunities for the hotel. Identify, qualify and solicit new catering business to achieve personal and hotel revenue goals.

* Understand the overall market - competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand etc. and know how to sell against them.

* Conduct outside sales calls to cultivate existing customers and accounts and develop new business.

* Close the best opportunities for the hotel based on market conditions and hotel needs.

* Use negotiating skills and creative selling abilities to close on business and negotiate contracts.

* Design, develop and sell creative catered events.

* Maximize revenue by up-selling packages and creative food and beverage offerings.

* Gain understanding of the hotel’s primary target customer and service expectations; serve the customer by understanding their business, business issues and concerns, to offer better business solution both prior to, and during the program/event.

* Develop a close working relationship with operations to ensure execution of strategies at the hotel level.

* Interact effectively with vendors, competitors, local community, catering associations and other hotel departments. (including Sales, Kitchen and Operations) in order to ensure guest satisfaction.

* Ensure quality standards are met in the area of customer service and satisfaction.

* Ensure systems are established and in place to respond to customer needs within a defined response period. These may include, but are not limited to: telephone inquiries, bids, proposals, confirmation of bookings, thank you letters, follow up letters, room diagrams, etc.

* Develop and maintain a file and trace system to ensure all sales call activity is defined, recorded, traced, and updated in an organized manner.

* Ensure the understanding and implementation of Brand sales initiatives, tools and resources.

* Aggressively pursue all appropriate opportunities within designated market segments for outside customer solicitation and relationship building including: Outside Sales Calls, Civic Association Events, Trade Events, Industry Vendor Relationships, etc.

* Conduct hotel tours and entertain qualified potential clients in accordance with the company and property policies.

* Local community involvement as it benefits the hotel, via approved memberships in organizations.

* Submit required weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the DOC, DOS, General Manager and Corporate staff. Analyze data for trends, corrective action, rate maximization, etc.

* Be able to understand and interpret market conditions, trends, and the competition, as well as catering sales month-end reports.

- Perform other services and duties as requested by the DOC, DOS, General Manager. May be called upon to host functions and participate in, or conduct sales blitzes, travel and work extended hours to achieve departmental goals.
