Job Description

 The Engineer, is responsible for ensuring that the property is maintained in the best possible condition at all times with the least amount of inconvenience to customers and employees.

Responsibilities
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of all boilers, heaters, pumps, valves, appurtenances and lines used in the distribution of steam and heated or processed water.
  • Operation, repair and maintenance of refrigerant compressors, condensders, evaporators, traps, transfer pumpos, expansion valves, stop valves, and float valves, together with all refrigerant lines and devfices used to control temperatures.
  • Operation, repair and maintenance of pumps handling brines, or other secondary refrigerating liquids together with all valves, appurtenances and lines in the system.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of air compressors, together with distribution lines and all valves and devicdes for air control.
  • Operation, maintenance and repair of all antural and manufactured gas distribution lines, including all valves and control devices.
  • Operation, repair and maintenance of water filters, softener, piping and pumps used in conjunction with water distribution, including all sinks and toilet bowls including supply lines and water lines.
  • Operation, repair and maintenance of all types of motors or engines used to power pumps, compressors and fans.
  • All electrical work and repairs.
  • Tools considered as necessary to fulfilling the duties of the engineer will be the arc and acelylene welding and cutting torches, all types of pipe wrenches, electric drills, sanders and buffers, the drill press, pipe threaders, and all other types of special equipment necessary to operate, repair and maintain the equipment listed, including the voltmeter and ammeter.
  • Operation, repari and maintenance of all types of locks, keys and locksmith related duties.
  • Maintenance, repair and installation of carpentry work and those duties related to carpentry.
  • Operation repair and maintenance of energy systems, life safety systems, environmentalcontrols, safe lock, telecommunications, and other such computerized emergency systems, except where governmental regularions, maintenance contracts, past practice and hte skills of existing employees provide and/or dictate that such work shall not be performed by the hotel's employees.
  • Any and all work not specifically enumerated above, but which is customarily performed by maintenance engineers and assigned by the Chief or Assistant Chief Engineer.

Qualifications
  • Experience and ability with kitchen and refrigeration experience is required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or a related field required.
  • At least one year of progressive experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  • Trade school and/or College course work in related field helpful.
  • Ability to work any day of the week or any time of the day is required.
  • Flexible and long hours sometimes required.
  • Heavy work - Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all level of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly courteouse and service oriented manner.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which includes wearing the proper uniform and nametag.
  • Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
