Reports To: General Manager

Develop and implement the total sales and marketing effort of the hotel, including securing new accounts, maintaining existing accounts and executing sales and marketing strategies to maximize the profitability of the hotel while maintaining customer satisfaction.

Preform the activities of hotel sales, providing leadership and motivation necessary to implement effective sales and marketing strategies and to maximize the generation of hotel sales/revenues.

Develop and maintain relationships with key clients in order to produce group and/or convention business, to include room sales and public room/limited catering sales.

Manage the departmental budget and monitor sales activities/performance to assure actual sales meet or exceed established revenue plan and to accurately report variances/projections to management.

Schedule conventions and business group activities at the hotel and coordinate with other hotel-level departments to facilitate services agreed upon by the sales office and prospective clients.

Develop hotel level tactical sales plans to support overall system wide sales plans/strategies and programs.

Develop and maintain good relationships with officials and representatives of local community groups and companies, and attend out-of-town conventions to generate convention and group business.

Assist the General Manager in the development and update of the hotel level business plan to include input on sales goals and plans that support the overall business and sales strategies of the company.

Serves as member of Executive Committee/Leadership Team, Manager on Duty, and works with other leadership personnel to establish and implement hotel service standards to achieve maximum profitability and efficiency.

In coordination with General Manager, serve as hotel representative for media related inquiries and refer sensitive matters to the corporate Public Relations Department if necessary.


Internal: All Hotel Departments: to communicate scheduled functions and coordinate delivery of services to the customer.
Hyatt & Corporate Office Staff: to discuss and exchange information, as appropriate, on tactical sales plans and assure consistency with overall system-wide sales plans/strategies.
External: Area Groups and Business: to promote hotel's services to generate business.
Travel Agencies: to promote hotel's services and to coordinate joint efforts.
Competitors: to stay informed of competitive strategies and business conditions.


Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree in marketing or related field, or equivalent and four years experience in sales or marketing to include two years in a hospitality or hotel sales program. Supervisory experience desirable.  Hyatt experience desireable.

Sales Manager

The major responsibility in this position is to manage the functional areas of total sales, therefore a significant portion of the workday is spent moving about, speaking, and listening, often while standing up and sitting.

The vast majority of time is spent moving about while communicating with staff or guests. Close supervision and interaction with staff and guests is essential in this position to assure guest satisfaction. Meeting with potential clients requires a large amount of time.

Reading and writing abilities are used often in reviewing and compiling departmental records.

A large portion of time is spent sitting down and some of this time is spent completing departmental paper work, such as forecasting and competitive reports.

Mathematical skills, such as profit/loss concepts, percentages and variances are used often.

A large amount of time is spent utilizing problem solving, reasoning, motivating, and training abilities.
