Job Description

Position Purpose Manage the day-to-day and long term operations of the Housekeeping. Essential Functions Manage the daily operations of the Housekeeping. Responsible for budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning of the department. Manage the selection, training and development of employees with an eye toward maximum employee satisfaction, productivity and guest satisfaction. Conduct regular inspections of the hotel to ensure adherence to cleanliness and maintenance standards. A meticulous eye for detail in terms of cleanliness is imperative. Manage operating expenses to maximize costs while providing excellent guest services. Coordinate department’s activities with other departments to facilitate increased levels of communication and guest satisfaction. Bear ultimate responsibility for monitoring consumption and ordering replacement of guest and cleaning supplies. Oversee divisional matters as they relate to federal, provincial and local employment and civil rights laws. Ensure all third party contractors are managed to be adhering to all company policies and procedures and that standards of services are maintained. Training, mentoring and developing Housekeeping leadership team. Other: Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required. Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Starwood rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel’s facilities. Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Requirements

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities: High school or equivalent education required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Minimum eight years management experience with at least five years in housekeeping management at progressively higher levels of responsibility. Pre-opening, or newly renovated room product experience an asset. Previous management experience in a unionized environment an asset. Strong record in Be Safe practices preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Previous experience with Galaxy/ Lightspeed Property Management System an asset. Requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Knowledge of computer accounting programs, math skills as well as budgetary analysis capabilities required. Most tasks are performed in a team environment with the employee acting as a team leader. There is minimal direct supervision. Thorough knowledge of federal, provincial and local laws governing equal employment opportunity and civil rights, occupational safety and health, wage and hour issues, and labour relations.
