Rich in history and accentuated with a diverse past, this iconic monument featured the first escalator installation in Portland and, in 1922, also functioned as the studio for Meier & Frank's very own radio station. At its peak, the building housed everything from a pharmacy, to a pet store, to a deli and served as Clark Gable's place of employment prior to him meeting fame and fortune as an actor in the 1930's.
Channeling the unique atmosphere of Portland and the surrounding area, the Nines offers a fascinating art collection that is both authentic and memorable. Our guests will be exposed to a variety of pieces that range from Hap Tivey’s Pearl Moon, a curious image depicting the elasticity of light, to Storm Tharp’s portrayal of Clark Gable’s personal narrative with Tie Salesman (Clark Gable). At the Nines, we are particularly excited about the opportunity to engage with our guests in celebrating fine art.

This role will report to both General Manager of Hotel and F&B Operations.
The Director of Engineering assists in the safe, efficient maintenance and operation of the hotels physical structure. Demonstrates great leadership skills in managing associates and ensuring the safety of guests. Supervises the implementation of all property and equipment preventive maintenance, repairs, monitor life safety systems and utilities. Ensures compliance with all hotel brand standards, local, state and federal codes and regulations to protect hotel assets. Develops short and long term strategies of the engineering division. Develop the department's budget, capital expenditures and manages expenses within approved budget constraints.

painting – prep to finish, basic carpentry, groundskeeper. Requires advanced knowledge of building management/engineering.
Requires analyzing activities and/or information involving some original data manipulation or interpretation to arrive at logical conclusions.
Excellent hearing required to communicate with management and staff.
Excellent vision required to visually check hotel premises.
Excellent speech communication skills required to communicate with management and staff.
Excellent comprehension and literacy required for procedures, reports, budgets, instructions
Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying of weights up to 25 lbs. and occasionally greater, for all hotel equipment and machinery. 50-75% of job function.
Frequent bending and/or kneeling throughout the day for repairs and maintenance of hotel property, equipment and machinery. 50% of job function.
Mobility - throughout the hotel, all floors, varying heights and distances. Use of ladders and lifts required at times. Generally 75-80% of job function.
Continuous standing required in varying degrees throughout the day.
Climbing stairs up to approximately 210 steps 5% of each day.
Driving - limited driving on an occasional basis for supplies, equipment, etc. Generally within 20 miles.
More than two years of post high school education
Experience required by position is from four to five years of employment in a related position with this company or other organization(s).
Chemicals/Agents used: Water treatments, cleaning, degreasers, coil cleaners, paint thinners, gasoline.
Protective clothing: Facemask (chemical testing), goggles, rubber gloves, welding shield worn approximately 1%.
Power, hand tools (i.e. circular saw, drill).
Work inside 95% of week; outside 5% of week. Abnormal temperatures - walk-in freezers - below 32 degrees, 1% of the time.
