Position Description:


The Director of Event Sales is responsible for the revenue generation of budgeted top line banquet/catering revenue for the hotel. Following the direction of the Director of Sales and Marketing, the Director of Event Sales will articulate and achieve the company’s goals and demonstrate a commitment to these goals through work ethic, integrity, passion, and respect for the Company and its associates.


The Director of Event Sales is responsible for handling banquet and/or local social catering opportunities for the property. The associate is responsible for contracting and closing banquet and/or local catering and social business, and ensuring that business is turned over properly and in a timely fashion for quality service delivery. The position is responsible for achieving catering revenue goals by actively up-selling each business opportunity to maximize revenue. The DOES implements the brand’s service strategy and applicable brand initiatives in all aspects of the sales process and drives customer loyalty by delivering service excellence throughout each customer experience.

 Direct supervision of all associates in the hotel Catering services and department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the brand and management company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, assisting and directing activities; evaluating performance; rewarding, coaching, and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 Conduct and/or participate in the required company standard meetings, including but not limited to daily Sales stand up meeting, daily operations meeting, daily business review meeting, weekly Banquet Event Order meetings,

pre/post-convention meetings, weekly one-on-one with each catering sales manager, and weekly staff/Executive

Committee meeting.

 Maintain a collaborative working relationship with the General Manager, Director of Food & Beverage, Executive Chef

And Banquet Manager.

 Ensure quality standards are met in the area of customer service and satisfaction.

 Direct the catering sales effort to ensure revenue maximization with a working knowledge of food & beverage compositions and an understanding of kitchen and banquet service procedures.

 Assist Event Sales managers with the development and implementation of SMART Plans for assigned market segments. Develop personal SMART plans for assigned markets/accounts. Monitor results & progress during weekly one-on-one meetings.

 Conduct outside sales calls to cultivate existing customers and accounts and develop new business.

 Define specific deployment and market/account responsibilities for self and all Event Sales managers.

 Recruit, hire, train and evaluate catering sales & event service managers performance.

 Ensure systems are established and in place to respond to customer needs within a defined response period. These may include, but are not limited to: telephone inquiries, bids, proposals, confirmation of bookings, thank you letters, follow up letters, outside calls, etc.

 Develop and maintain a file and trace system to ensure all sales call activity is defined, recorded, traced, and updated in an organized manner.

 Review daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly results of all activities completed by the Catering Sales Managers.

Ensure all traces are completed and retraced where appropriate

 Ensure the understanding and implementation of Brand sales initiatives, tools and resources.

 Aggressively pursue appropriate opportunities within designated market segments for outside customer solicitation and relationship building including: Outside Sales Calls, Civic Association Events, Trade Events, Industry Vendor Relationships, etc.

 Conduct hotel tours and entertain qualified potential clients in accordance with the company and property policies.

 Contribute to the research and development of the annual strategic banquet/catering budget, and monthly forecasts.

 Submit required weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the DOSM, General Manager and Corporate staff.

Analyze data for trends, corrective action, rate maximization, etc.

 Active participate in Month End Revenue Review Calls and Property Visits with Corporate staff.

 Ability to understand and interpret market conditions, trends, and the competition, as well as catering sales month- end reports.

 Contribute and work as a "team" member in all facets of the position. Assists the DOSM with creating a cohesive team

culture within the sales department.

 Perform other services and duties as requested by the DOSM and/or General Manager. May be called upon to host functions and participate in, or conduct sales blitzes, travel and work extended hours to achieve departmental goals.

 Present a clean, pleasant and professional image to project a positive, polished appearance to staff, potential guests and clients.
