Corporate Controller

Job Description:

Commonwealth Hotels, LLC has been a very successful hotel management company since its inception. Our award-winning hotels are models of brand standard, and our people are “best in class”. Due to recent growth we have an immediate opening for an experienced Corporate Controller to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, regulations and laws for accounting, payroll, internal audit, and risk management.


The ideal candidate has a proven track record as a Corporate Controller within the hospitality industry and multi-unit environment, possess a polished and professional demeanor where s/he can make professional and relevant business presentations, strong business and financial acumen, extensive success as a leader and building teams, and expertise in developing and deploying cost saving strategies.


The Corporate Controller strategically assist the President and Vice President in achieving goals, maximizing asset value and returns on investment for owners and equity partners. Supports our executive team, hotels, directly supervises the Director of Accounting and Assistant Director of Accounting and indirectly oversees the Accounting Department. Travel could be required at times.


This position will be based in Cincinnati, Ohio/Northern Kentucky Area. Candidates and family must be willing to relocate to the area immediately.


Job Description:


  • Enhance, develop, and implement processes, tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information.

  • Effectively lead the Accounting Department and ensure action plans and goals are attained.

  • Create and execute strategies that will result in achievement of budgeted property revenue and profit.

  • Lead and implement financial initiatives with property leadership.

  • Create and execute revenue opportunities and cost savings in all aspects of the complex business.

  • Develop integrated revenue/expense analyses, projections, reports and presentations.

  • Ensure financial information is correct and timely.

  • Identify trends and developments in competitive environments and presents findings to Executive Team.

  • Perform financial forecasting, analyzing variances and data to initiate corrective actions.

  • Assist in review of monthly financial statements and balance sheets to prepare variance analysis and benchmarking for more effective management of hotels.

  • Cash flow forecasting and loan covenant monitoring.

  • Partnering with financially driven and collaborative ownership groups that take pride in excellence of their properties.

Job Requirements:
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and understand a variety of internal and external economic and financial issues which impact the business, to analyze data and forecast future business trends, and to develop effective financial plans based on businesses assessments.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing people.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written to address all levels within the organization and ability to gain consensus.

  • Demonstrated experience with Great Plains or similar financial software for the purpose of financial reporting, analysis and presentation.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of finance, budgeting, and accounting processes and regulations, along with demonstrated knowledge of capital projects management standards and techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to scope a project and develop a plan of action, ability to influence others, present convincing arguments and deal with conflicting viewpoints.

  • Significant impact on the financial planning, cost management, budgeting and operations of assigned unit. Decisions made and analytical data gathered directly influences business operating decisions made by the Executive Team.

  • Significant impact on the tracking and maintenance of budget and financial performance data for hotels, on capital spend, and on the accurate and timely reporting of current financial and budget status to Executive Team.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.

  • A strong finance and accounting background with proven success in managing all functions of company finance.

  • CPA Preferred.

  • Prefer 10+ years of senior level multi-unit hospitality accounting experience.

  • Experience with multiple hotel brands.

  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.

  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities.

  • Proficient with a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Office applications specifically Excel, and Great Plains experience preferred.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills, a critical thinker.

  • Manage priorities and workflow.

  • Effectively communicate with people at all levels.
