Summary: 

This position is primarily responsible for managing all engineering/maintenance operations, including maintaining the guestrooms, building, grounds, and physical plant equipment with particular attention towards safety, preventative maintenance, security, energy conservation and asset protection.  Accountable for managing the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation.  Responsible for maintaining regulatory requirements.  Leads the emergency response team for all facility issues.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

Manages Grand Performers with-in the Engineering Department and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Travel Required:

Voluntary task force assignments as needed

Essential Duties / Tasks / Responsibilities: Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Manages, monitors and maintains the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems

  2. Ability to perform preventative and corrective maintenance through-out the hotels up to and including guestrooms, public spaces and all related hotels equipment and systems.

  3. Ensure that equipment is operating at optimum effectiveness, efficiency, and safety.

  4. Strong trouble-shooting skills

  5. Ensure that equipment is operating at optimum effectiveness, efficiency, and safety.

  6. Develops and maintains a weekly work schedule to ensure proper engineering coverage.

  7. Provides reports on the status of project milestones and adjusts schedules accordingly.

  8. Controls expenditures within limitations of budget.

  9. Supervises day to day operations of Engineering.

  10. Establishes and maintains open, collaborative relationships with Grand Performers and other department leaders.

  11. Strives to improve service performance.

  12. Celebrates successes and publicly recognizes the contributions of team members.

  13. Provides feedback to Grand Performers based on observation of service behaviors.

  14. Supervises Grand Performers’ ability to execute department and hotel emergency procedures.

  15. Ensures hotel policies are administered fairly and consistently.

  16. Manages an effective equipment, guestroom, hotel wide preventative maintenance program.

  17. Ensures regulatory compliance to facility regulations and safety standards.

  18. Empowers Grand Performers to provide excellent customer service.

  19. Maintains accurate logs, brand related reports, energy related reports as records as required.

  20. Ensures disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to the Progressive Discipline Policy.

  21. Handles guest problems and complaints effectively.

  22. Preforms weekly inspections to evaluate the physical condition of facilities in order to determine the type of work required.

  23. Recommends or arranges for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.

  24. Selects and orders or purchases new equipment, supplies, and furnishings.

Experience/Education / Certifications:

  1. Technical Degree – Preferred

  2. Technical Training – Required

  3. Trade Related Certifications - Preferred

  4. Hospitality, Healthcare or related industry experience - Required

  5. Valid Driver’s License - Required

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (KSA’s):

1.  Minimum 3 years of Chief Engineer experience in full service, preferably in an upscale hotel. 

2.  Trade related certifications preferred

3.  Computer skills including knowledge of database software, internet software, order processing systems, Microsoft Office suite.
