The Best Western Plus Grosvenor Hotel is now hiring for the position of Chief Engineer.  We are a very busy 206 room hotel with 9 suites, restaurant and bar, 5,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, business center, seasonal outdoor pool and fitness room located near San Francisco International Airport.  We have been through many recent upgrades and renovations.  The Best Western Plus Grosvenor Hotel is a 100% drug-free environment.

CHIEF ENGINEER JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports To:       Hotel General Manager and Assistant General Manager

Position Summary: The Chief Engineer will direct and implement maintenance programs aimed at maintaining a zero-defect environment for guests.  Additionally, the Chief Engineer manages the engineering and maintenance operations for the hotel in order to maintain high standards of product quality as set forth by Best Western Plus Grosvenor Hotel to ensure the maximum comfort and satisfaction of hotel guests.   

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Under general direction, implement the hotels maintenance plan, including performing a wide variety of building and grounds inspection, maintenance and repair functions; participate in planning and coordination of the maintenance plan including supervision, oversight and evaluation of contractors; provides expertise in the repair and troubleshooting of equipment and building systems; responds to and is available to provide supervision and maintenance of emergency repairs 24/7.

  • Operates specialized equipment such as electrical testing devices, power tools, air compressors, pressure washers, generators, fire control systems; participates in safety and security planning; prepares for and responds to urgent and emergency situations such as fire, evacuation, equipment failure and guest and staff concerns.Oversee and manage the operations of the hotel relating to refrigeration, heating and cooling equipment, plumbing, preventative maintenance, hotel rooms, elevators, ice machines, swimming pool, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, switch rooms, housekeeping/laundry equipment, roof exhaust and grounds.

  • Oversee, manage and provide direction and training to the maintenance staff, oversee all programs to ensure guest and hotel maintenance needs are being met. Special projects work, performing various work order tasks, lead and oversee the hotel’s safety and security committee.

  • Work closely with the AGM and Director of Housekeeping, vendors, outside contractors and coordinate bids for any necessary projects to be performed by such contractors in order to ensure timely completion within budget and provide future maintenance.

  • Responsible for maintaining high standards of product quality and reporting deficiencies to achieve highest Guest Satisfaction Scores.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Building control systems, plumbing systems, carpentry, electrical, lighting and HVAC

  • OSHA and ADA regulations, state and local codes

  • English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation

  • Principles of business writing including report preparation

  • Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers and computer programs commonly used in the hotel business

  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices

 

 

 

 

 

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Chief Engineer or similar leadership/management position in a hotel environment or commercial facility requiring a high level of customer service.

  • High School Diploma/GED. Trade school course work in related field will be considered.

  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills and excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to train, communicate, motivate, evaluate, mentor, discipline and direct employees to achieve desired goals

  • Requires lifting of up to 60 pounds on a regular and continuing basis.
