Job Description
Wyndham Hotel Group is searching for a  Business Development Manager to work at our beautiful Dolce Q Center in St. Charles, IL. The Business Development Manager is responsible for uncovering, building and growing undeveloped business, accounts and markets within the property. This position will be required to research and develop target action plans on untapped business opportunities. He/she is also will be responsible for all activities that penetrate to these target accounts, markets and bookings once strategies are set into place. He/she will work closely with the sales team to communicate progress, next steps and leads. 

Essential Job Functions: include but are not limited to
  • Identify new business opportunities by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements.
  • Conduct solicitation calls, traces, follow ups and email communication
  • Primary attention to historic property Lost and Turned Down business
  • Review and build action plans from reader board information / target market share to shift 
  • Required to communicate all marketing/promotional specials with targets accounts
  • Build strategic business development plans quarterly/annually
  • Report out progress, findings and potential leads with sales organization/team
  • Meet and/or exceed monthly / annual sales activity
  • Meet and/or exceed monthly / annual lead volume goals
  • Attend daily Wyndham Business Review (WBR) meeting.
  • Develop a full working knowledge of the operations of the hotel, including Food and Beverage, Guest Services and Reservations.
  • Develop a complete knowledge of company sales policies and SOP’s, and ensure knowledge of and adherence to those policies by the sales team.
  • Maintain and participate in an active sales solicitation program.
  • Monitor production of all top accounts and evaluate trends within your market.
  • Regularly contact existing accounts based on the tracing frequencies of the Account Coverage Program.
  • Meet or exceed solicitation call goals as assigned by the Director of Sales.
  • Invite clients to the hotel for entertainment, lunches, tours and site inspections.
  • Assist in implementing special promotions relating to direct sales segments, i.e.WynClub parties, sales blitzes, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of required reports in a timely manner.
  • Be familiar with all Wyndham sales policies and selling techniques with an emphasis on maximizing occupancy and Average Daily Rate (ADR).
  • Conduct a professional, thorough site inspection of the hotel with clients, exhibiting key features and benefits of the property.
  • Use your property’s computerized sales management system to manage the hotel’s business, including (but not limited to) generating reports, entering business, blocking space and building accounts.
  • Meet and greet onsite contacts.
  • Abide by Prime Selling Time (PST).
  • Develop networking opportunities through active participation in community and professional associations, activities and events.
  • Review meeting planner evaluations with the Director of Sales to ensure that issues receive follow-up.
  • Entertain clients.
  • Handle inquiries as part of Inquiry Day Program.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of Hotel Sales experience in Corp/SMERF market segmentsin a high volume  multi-million dollar operation.
  • Previous experience with Delphi preferred.
  • Previous experience with Lanyon and Opera hotel automation systems preferred
  • Excellent Communication skills (verbal & written) in English.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with cold calling on hotel clients in the travel industry.
  • Proven and creative sales prospecting skills.
  • Understand the GDS, TMC and different channel distributions related to travel.
  • Ability to analyze market data and translate it to a plan to target new business through Hotelligence Report, Star Report, etc.
  • Demonstrated presentation & influencing skills
  • Must possess basic computational ability.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.

Physical requirements:

  • Long hours sometimes required. This position is an overtime eligible Business Development Manager position that is required to work 47.50 hours weekly.
  • Weekends, holidays & evening hours are required.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5 hours per day. Walking and standing are required the rest of the working day.
  • While attending trade shows, must be able to stand for up to 8 hours per day. This includes traveling to and from meetings and may include air travel. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. occasionally.
