Job Description

THE TENNESSEAN Hotel Bartender is a professional individual who can uphold a gracious, thoughtful, polite, and polished culture of service. The Bartender serves drinks and food at the bar while exceeding expectations and providing a memorable, luxury hotel experience. The Bartender anticipates guest’s needs, communicate effectively, and work closely with the entire Drawing Room Team to ensure a flawless dining experience. The Bartender interacts with fellow team members and departments in a courteous and effective manner at all times.


  • Greet and welcome Drawing Room guests as they arrive
  • Be knowledgeable of standard drinks and liquors/wines/cocktails/products specific to the Drawing Room
  • Manage, report, and maintain bar inventory
  • Prepare daily orders for bar items to maintain pars and communicate inventory with the Drawing Room Manager
  • Responsible for cash/credit card handling and bank procedures as outlined by the Accounting Department
  • Responsible for compliance in regards to all cashiering/money handling
  • Responsible for learning suggestive selling techniques and using them during service
  • Maintain cleanliness of all workplace areas that apply to the Drawing Room bar
  • Complete any reasonable task as assigned by a Supervisor or Manager


  • Reports to: Drawing Room Manager
  • Key Relationships: Kitchen and entire F&B department, Servers/Food Runners, Butler Services, Guest Services, Concierge Services, Housekeeping, and Engineering


  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, team members, and management
  • High School degree or equivalent required
  • Minimum 2 years of bartending experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of fine dining or luxury resort experience required
  • Extensive wine and spirits knowledge
  • Must be 21 years old and have the ability to obtain an ABC card
  • Must be able to physically perform all tasks assigned
  • Must be able to stand for an entire shift
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Must be able to understand, follow, and give instructions
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and irregular shifts
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work closely with others


  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task, even during times of high stress
  • Basic computer skills and experience with POS/MICROS systems
  • Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy
  • Ability to follow-through and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain and uphold all company and hotel standards
  • Ability to perform basic math functions using a calculator
  • Ability to professionally represent “THE TENNESSEAN Hotel” while presenting a warm, professional, and refined demeanor with guests and fellow team members
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of all hotel features, information, and events
  • Ability to ensure the security and confidentially of all guest information and internal hotel practices
  • Ability to continuously create specialty drinks and research new bartending techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work professionally in a team environment

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure guests are greeted and served in a timely and professional manner and in accordance with the standards of THE TENNESSEAN Hotel
  • Ensure communication with all guests so that each guest feels special and attended to (No guest goes forgotten)
  • Present the Drawing Room menu
  • Remain knowledgeable of all updated food and beverage menu items
  • Check guest’s identification and confirm the guest meets the legal drinking age
  • Prepare drink orders for guests according to specified recipes using accurate measuring systems
  • Issue, open, and serve wine/champagne bottles
  • Attend to tables in the dining area as needed
  • Set up and maintain cleanliness and condition of bar, bar unit, tables, and other tools
  • Prepare fresh garnishes for drinks
  • Stock ice, glassware, stemware, and paper supplies (polish as needed)
  • Restock bar with liquor and supplies
  • Transport supplies to bar set-up area
  • Remove soiled wares from bar top and tables and place in designated area
  • Anticipate and communicate replenishment needs
  • Assist with inventory
  • Provide drink recommendations
  • Always ensure food and beverage orders are within guests’ dietary and allergy restrictions and guidelines
  • Respond promptly to any questions or concerns from the guests in a professional manner
  • Form rapport with guests in order to create guest loyalty
  • Continually check on guests at the bar, making sure they are satisfied
  • Deliver cocktails to tables as needed
  • Assist servers and remainder of the Drawing Room Team as needed
  • Process all payment methods: Count bank at end of shift, complete designated cashier reports, resolve any discrepancies, drop off receipts, and secure bank
  • Secure liquors, beers, wines, coolers, cabinets, and storage areas
  • Complete opening and closing duties checklists
  • Assist in other food and beverage departments as needed
  • Ensure safety guidelines are met and maintained at all times
  • Ensure compliance to state and county liquor control laws at all times
  • Ensure compliance with food handling and sanitation standards at all times
  • Ensure compliance to local and state health department requirements at all times
  • Respond to any reasonable tasks as assigned by a Supervisor or Manager
  • Report any and all damages or maintenance issues immediately to Engineering
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with all other team members
  • Report any and all suspicious activity, persons, or items to Manager or Supervisor immediately
  • Resourcefully, creatively, efficiently, and politely handle any and all guest complaints
  • Ensure all guest complaints are reported to the appropriate Managers and/or Supervisors in order to avoid missed guest opportunities
  • Ensure all lost and found items are handled appropriately in accordance with the standards of THE TENNESSEAN Hotel
