Job Description


Job Summary:

The Banquet Captain provides guidance and leadership to banquet staff in set-up, service and cleanup of all assigned event activities in order to ensure a successful function and repeat business. Coordinates workflow, reviews work assignments, provides training, and provides input into performance evaluations.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assigns tasks, shares management and customer expectations and provides training and direction to assigned staff.
  • Supervises and assists with the set-up of assigned catered functions, ensuring that the customer's expectations and hotel's standards are met.
  • Assists management with the creation of the Event Work Schedule and planning of events.
  • Ensures cleanliness of all event areas, pre and post function.
  • Follows all standard food handling, TIPS, sanitation and health department guidelines.

Job Requirements:

  • Two years banquet server or equivalent experience in hotel environment
  • Requires ability to lead others in the department by mentoring and providing training that results in staff that meets/exceeds guest expectations and provides a high level of guest satisfaction.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of wine, beer, liquors, waters and drink preparation
  • Ability to work on AM, PM, weekend and holiday shifts as required by operational needs

Ideal candidate will have:

  • Prior supervisory experience desired
  • 4 or 5 diamond experience is a plus
  • Ability to perform basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee frequently is required to stand for periods of time and occasionally required to sit, walk, crawl, kneel, stoop, crouch and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
