Assistant Engineering Manager Position Purpose Responsible for repair and service of all electrical & mechanical equipment on property; to include refrigeration equipment; Assist the Director of Engineering and the Chief Engineer (where applicable) with the supervision of the department daily shift activities of trades persons and building maintenance. Essential Functions Perform general repair and maintenance of any and all equipment found in and around the hotel. Specify work areas to be assigned as needed to each employee, based on skill level and experience. Ensure that all safety systems are operable. Respond to guest room calls as required. Supervise the preventive maintenance of all electrical / mechanical systems. Assist the Director of Engineering in the training and coaching of associates and use progressive discipline if/when necessary. Provide exemplary service to guests and associates ensuring actions and communications are compliant with the values of the organization. Coordinates tool, equipment and material needs for planned work activities. Able to work flexible hours, days to ensure department success. Other duties as assigned
Qualification Standards, Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities. High school or equivalent education required, post-secondary/trade education required. Hotel experience with at least 3 years’ experience in a leadership role required Must have 3-5 years engineering background with HVAC, trades experience and building engineering knowledge required. Previous experience in a Hotel and/or High Rise complex required Computer skills with a focus on Excel, Word, maintenance software Must have thorough knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems, maintenance of records of power, water and fuel consumption. Must have experience in office procedures, ordering materials, city codes and other applicable building laws, building construction, blueprint reading, etc. Good communication skills both orally and written Must possess analytical abilities and keen attention to detail Physical Demands The Sheraton Centre ensures complete compliance to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The worker is subject to intermittent noise: there is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the surrounding noise level. The worker is subject to hazards intermittently: includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation. Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis. Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill tasks occasionally. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
