Unit Description

Sodexo Leisure is currently seeking a Special Events Catering Manager for the Museum of Science and Industry.The Special Event Catering Manager will be an liaison to our Catering Operations Managers and Event Sales team & the museum staff. 


This manager will be responsible for Special Events and will:

  • Interface with the other Sodexo departments regarding event set ups, staffing and billing
  • Coordinate in-house equipment and rental equipment
  • Supervise set up of events with Museum staff
  • Coordinate all Museum functions during Special Events (Coat check, Parking, Security, Exhibit Guides, Guest Operations, HVAC and Exhibit Techs)
  • Other duties include, but are not limited to: internal billing, creating floor plans, assisting with inquiries, creating Purchase Orders for Museum events, Labor Justification, producing P&L statements
  • Maintaining all Special Event Equipment inventory;
  • Oversee events that are primarily Museum functions with little or no food or beverage service

Must be available weekends, holidays, late-nights, flexible schedule & days off. Successful candidate will be extremely organized, high level computer skills, strong financial acumen, able to work with a diverse group of people.


The Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago, IL is a historic building with exciting exhibits to provide entertainment to daytime visitors as well as evening events. MSI is one of the largest science museums in the world with thousands of exhibits and artifacts. The venue is just steps from Lake Michigan and only minutes from downtown Chicago and has unique and spectacular spaces for events from social to corporate and conventions.  

Position Summary

Manages all catered events. Hires, schedules, and trains catering staff. Works with clients/customers to arrange and follow through on all catering details and to ensure all special requests are met. Directs setup for events. Responsible for pricing, billing and resolving customer complaints. Develops menu/costing.
