College jobs in facilities management may require an associate or bachelor's degree in business or management. A few may accept professionals with high school diplomas alone. Those seeking senior positions may benefit from additional technical training and experience in the field. Facility managers monitor campus facilities to maintain their safety, security and condition. They may be responsible for directing maintenance, grounds and custodial staff. The BLS expects job opportunities in facilities maintenance to increase by 12 percent by 2018.

Grounds maintenance university jobs usually require nothing more than a high school diploma � and some less than that. Most grounds maintenance workers are trained on the job in a matter of weeks. They may learn about maintenance and planting as well as how to operate mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers and other grounds keeping equipment. These positions may be full time, though most are part time and often seasonal. Employment of grounds maintenance workers is expected to increase 18 percent by 2018.

College jobs in Campus security are another viable employment option for college students and local residents. Little formal training is required and the hours are usually flexible. Campus security guards may monitor dormitories and university facilities as well as patrol the property to protect against vandalism and other illegal activities. Many states require the licensing of security guards. This generally requires a background check, drug testing, and classroom training on emergency procedures and the detention of suspected criminals. The BLS expects the employment of security guards to increase 14 percent by 2018.
