Sixty-five percent of hospitality job seekers in the United States believe men are better tippers
1, according to a survey by Hcareers.com, the biggest job site for the restaurant and hospitality industry.
When asked who are better tippers, men or women, 75% of men and 55% of women in the US agreed that, when it comes to gratuities, there is a definite male dominance. Findings are consistent globally, with 69% of British men and 78% of Canadian men stating that the male gender is more generous with tips. Almost two-thirds of women in the UK and in Canada agree with their male counterparts.
Feedback suggests that women expect higher levels of service before tipping. While most men feel a standard gratuity should be given regardless of service, women are more discerning. A hospitality employee relying on tips should be aware that women expect better service, but are willing to reward those who go the extra mile. Men require less effort, but may not increase the tip for exceptional service.
