MUST HAVE HOSPITALITY (HOTEL) EXPERIENCE

Scope:

This position supports the hotel engineering organization by giving direction to Area Champions, Chief Engineers, Engineering Supervisors and Maintenance Engineers. Plays a key role in overseeing, coordinating and assisting members of hotel maintenance staffs at approximately 125 hotels. Ensures repairs, maintenance and operations of all building systems are accomplished correctly. Directs and supports or monitors capital repair and renovation projects as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

Effectively and professionally communicates with co-workers and supervisor.
Follows company policies and procedures and ensures adherence is achieved by field engineering staff members.
Provides a professional image at all times through appearance and dress.
Acts as liaison between Corporate Capital Project Managers and property engineers.
Manage minor capital projects (usually less than $50,000).
Be able to effectively communicate with property staff members, Regional and Corporate personnel. Must provide sufficient information, conclusions and recommendations in every contact.
Conducts or arranges for training of co-workers and subordinates regarding safety, security, department procedures, repair and maintenance techniques, operational procedures and service guidelines.
Supervises and assists engineering staff in maintaining and repairing fire and life safety systems, room equipment, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems, kitchen appliances, refrigeration equipment, pool equipment, lighting, laundry equipment and other systems/equipment as directed.
Performs skilled repair and maintenance operations using power tools, hand tools, welding equipment, etc.
Meets with vendors and suppliers to discuss scope of, and products and materials used in, repair activities.
Obtains pricing and bids, or develops cost estimates as directed.
Support the capital purchasing program in accordance with guidelines.
Interprets specifications, blueprints, plans and manuals for successful supervision of activities.
Provide guidance and support to hotel staffs relating to guest satisfaction scores (GSS) and Brand quality assurance (QA) inspections. Take leadership role in addressing engineering-related issues that affect GSS or QA scores.
Regularly communicate with Corporate Director of Engineering - Field Operations.
Ensure hotels are operated safely, efficiently and in accordance with regulatory agencies.
Conduct Peer Review or other site visits at hotels in area of responsibility.
Generate written reports and recommendations.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. Two years of college or vocational training in electrical or mechanical engineering or plumbing plus six years work experience in facilities maintenance, plant operations or engineering services for a hotel or hotels is highly desired.

Certification and/or License Requirement: One or more certifications in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, pool and spa operations. Minimum Type III EPA Certification for refrigerant reclamation and charging required. Other licensure as required by law.

Skills:
Ability to communicate appropriately with hotel staff and Corporate staff.
Specialization in technical crafts (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) is required. An ability to advance knowledge in these areas, and to mentor others, is essential.

May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.

The major responsibility in this position is providing direction to Area Champions and hotel engineering staff members by advising them how to accomplish the maintenance and engineering functions of the hotel in accordance with Archon policies and procedures. This person must understand the practices, techniques and technologies required in the work they are performing or monitoring.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl at times. The employee is occasionally required to smell.

A significant portion of time may be spent moving about the hotel and frequent lifting of up to 75 pounds and carrying of up to 25 pounds may be required.

Reading and writing abilities are utilized in order to document or record all tasks delegated and completed, to order supplies or to read and understand equipment manuals and plans.

Higher level reasoning abilities are always utilized.

Competency in mathematics is required.

This person will need to be able to react quickly in emergency situations and make decisions that may involve the safety of others or a great amount of money.
