Job Description
The Dow Hotel Company is seeking a talented Controller for a Texas Area Hotel
Reports To - General Manager - operational matters, VP Finance - functional responsibility for financial and control matters.
Supervises - Accounting Office Personnel, Credit Function, Night Audit Staff, Purchasing Function, Receiving Function, Storerooms, Systems and Data Processing Function
Major Responsibilities:
* Controller Responsibilities for a hotel in a decentralized environment.
* Promote operational efficiency and profits. Foster a team approach among Planning Committee members, and also to be a member of the Planning Committee. Provide solutions.
* Maintain accounting standards in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, DHC established policies and procedures, and DHC's property specific policies and procedures.
* Maintain and secure assets, including:
- Cash security, including deposit procedures, cash banks and weekend reserves, petty cash and expense procedures, cashier audits and verification.
- Control of operating equipment and supplies, including purchasing, inventory, issuance and obsolescence procedures.
- Control of CEP and other capital items; transfer and disposition of all such assets.
- Proper receiving, storeroom and issuing procedures for food and beverage items.
* Responsible for oversight of financial departments. Manage, mentor and train staff of seven.
* Utilize effective cash management techniques in:
- Tracking of daily receipts and disbursements.
- Forecasting of cash requirements/surpluses.
- Minimizing interest expense and maximizing interest income.
* Maximize early collection of receivables through:
- Timely and accurate processing of all billings.
- Compliance with credit procedures, including enforcement of advance deposit policies.
- Prompt analysis and/or adjustment of contested billings.
- Timely collections follow up of delinquent receivables.
* Establish proper office organization and record retention procedures.
* Issue accurate and timely financial statements.
* Issue daily, weekly and monthly financial and statistical information.
* Maintain proper property management and point of sale procedures and systems so that:
- Proper audit procedures of revenues and receipts are in place.
- Voids, exceptions and comps are properly accounted for and investigated.
* Perform timely evaluations and audits:
- Month end financial analysis.
- Payroll analysis.
- Cash audit procedures.
- Purchasing procedures.
* Compile, in conjunction with the General Manager and Planning Committee, all budgets and forecasts covering all activities of the hotel and the maintenance of all budget control procedures.
* Provide special financial analysis as required.
* Assume a leadership role in all accounting and control related projects.
* Ensure compliance with contractual agreements (management, franchise and where relevant, debt and equity or as directed from corporate).
* Coordinate all financial activities of the hotel.
* Provide financial advice and input on key hotel decisions.
Requirements:
A minimum of 9-10 years of progressive experience including Controller or Director of Finance in a full service hotel.
Must have recently (within the last 5 years) been a Property Controller in a full service, branded property for at least 3 years.
Must have experience in a decentralized accounting environment. We will not interview candidates without this knowledge.
Experience with Hilton franchise.
Exemplary leadership qualities that include the ability to guide, mentor, train and coach.
Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
Diplomatic and able to confront issues in a positive manner.
Must be detail oriented and highly organized.
Education:
A minimum of a four year degree from an accredited college or university is required. Major in accounting preferred.
