POSITION PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive supply chain strategy to leverage company buying power and to ensure quality, cost, and delivery standards are achieved. The director of purchasing will develop budgets, define the scope of and manage purchasing projects for new construction hotel projects and for all approved property improvement plans as well as on-going operational capital needs. Lead initiatives to consolidate buying across all aspects of Marcus Hotels and Resorts operations where appropriate. Work as an effective business partner with all team members at both HEO and the property.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.Planning and Strategy. This position will develop and implement an overall supply chain strategy to support business objectives. Focus on quality, cost, and delivery while ensuring compliance with all appropriate hotel franchise standards, where applicable. The will also support the annual budgeting process.

2. Supplier Selection and Management. Develop and execute a supplier qualification and certification process. Provide leadership in the qualification, source selection, contract negotiation, and relationship management with suppliers. Ensure continuous improvement in quality, service, and cost / discounts. Select vendors, assess vendor capabilities, develop alternate sources and continuously evaluate vendor performance.

3. Project Management. Understand, define scope, plan, and coordinate all elements of new construction / PIP purchasing projects. Keep accurate and up to date budgets, records and summary results. Coordinate closely with other team members to ensure that project timelines are met in a cost effective manner. Ensure that selected products all conform to franchise standards, when applicable.

4. Cost Reduction / Corporate Leverage. Support consolidated purchasing efforts across Marcus Hotels and Resort as appropriate. Work closely with other team members to identify and achieve leverage and savings opportunities. Assist in the negotiation of bulk discounts (especially in common capital expense categories), cost savings, and other continuous improvement opportunities.

5. Management Reporting / Communications. Keep all project budgets and records up to date at all times. Be able to provide accurate, up to the minute project summaries and updates. Develop and implement tracking and forecasting systems to better support estimating and budgeting process. Provide President with accurate and up to the minute capital expenditure reporting. Ensure that the hotel sites are up to speed with using negotiated projects and services appropriately. Responsible for the management of the electronic purchasing websites; keep information regarding rebates and contracts up to date.

6. Problem Solving / Trouble Shooting. Proactively analyze trends, identify problems and make recommendations to avoid future issues. Address and resolve all issues that develop with the hotel properties, vendors, quality and pricing to ensure a consistent quality product is delivered in a timely fashion

7. Self/Workload Management. Responsible for effective self/workload management. Demonstrates clear written and verbal communication skills. Promotes collaboration and works effectively as a member of the HEO team. Attends all weekly and/or monthly department/company meetings to ensure proper communication/planning occurs. Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business or related field, APICS certification is preferred.

Experience/Skills/Abilities:
8 - 10 years of progressively more responsible experience in purchasing in a high volume environment. Hospitality, multi entity, with new construction or renovation experience being a plus.
Successful experiences in managing a broad variety of spend categories.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Strong influencing and negotiating skills.
Ability to define problems, collect data, and come to valid conclusions; Experience in making informed recommendations.
Demonstrated track record of business partner collaboration; ability to work effectively in fast passed, multi-property setting
Proven ability to develop and implement cost reduction strategies.
Strong analytical and PC skills (excel, Word, Access, etc.) Experience with Birch Street systems would be a plus.
