During his watch the 3rd Engineer assists the Engineer Watch Officer (EWO) by locally monitoring the safe and efficient operation of all propulsion and auxiliary systems inside the engine room and keeps him informed. He assists Staff Chief Engineer and/or 2nd Engineer with the maintenance and repair of engine room machinery and equipment.
If the 3rd Engineer is assigned to Hotel maintenance, he assists the Hotel Maintenance Manager with the daily maintenance and repair of Hotel equipment and with refurbishment projects.

Requirements:
* Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests
* Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers
* Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French or German preferred
* Ability to participate in emergency life-saving drills and required training
