| Job Description: | Duties And Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Executive Director of Harvard University Hospitality and Dining Services, the Director for Events and Hospitality Services will lead and manage two business units responsible for catering, events, and Faculty Club services. This position will have direct responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day sales, marketing, and operations including financial accountability and developing innovative strategies for preserving and enhancing the unique hospitality offerings to the Harvard community at-large. It will involve building and maintaining excellent relationships with faculty, staff, students, and other guests to understand the requisite quality and value that is a hallmark of dining and guest services. The Director for Events and Hospitality Services will also promote the professional growth and development of the business unit staff, as well as foster collaborative cross-functional relationships throughout the Hospitality and Dining Services department to ensure these business units are effectively leveraged to benefit the Harvard community. This position requires thoughtful leadership and innovation in all hospitality activities while embracing and preserving the most valued elements of Harvard's intellectual, community and social events. Additional duties include: developing enhanced market awareness and innovative offerings to build upon existing market demand while maintaining the brand integrity of current services; establishing relationships and fostering ongoing dialogue with existing and potential new customer segments to inform a well-articulated market strategy that serves the needs of the Harvard community; setting and achieving sales and operational targets in a challenging economic environment; managing budgets and financial plans and controlling expenditures; ensuring events and conferences provide high levels of customer satisfaction to a diverse and varied client base in a cost-effective, high quality manner; overseeing operations, including quality, compliance with regulations, and general maintenance and renovations. Routinely works evenings and weekends. This position provides strategic leadership to the Harvard Faculty Club (www.hfc.harvard.edu), and Crimson Catering. The Faculty Club consists of a 12 bedroom inn, 11 private meeting rooms seating 2 - 100, with configuration flexibility, a formal dining room seating 140, and a bar/conservatory that seats 25. Total revenues: $7M. Crimson Catering (www.catering.harvard.edu), stages functions from small continental breakfasts to gala dinners for 1,000. Total revenues: $4.7M. |
| Job Requirements: | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basic Qualifications: BA/BS in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Services, or other applicable study area. 10+ years of demonstrated experience in hospitality/hotel management, including experience in restaurants and guest rooms in a premium brand, fast-paced, multi-service organization serving a global clientele. 3+ years in direct Sales/Marketing role including revenue accountability. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Qualifications: MBA or other graduate training a plus, though not required. Inclusive work style and team orientation. Strong people and operational management skills including well-developed verbal, written, and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to anticipate client and staff needs, gather evidence-based inputs, develop and follow-through on solutions, and support the organization's mission and operating principles. Strong interpersonal skills, particularly with a highly diverse, intellectual, and well-travelled clientele.
