Position Overview: The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for all Quality Assurance activities in a three shift, five to six day a week operation to meet company service, quality, cost, safety and people objectives. Includes the development, implementation and monitoring of all necessary programs. Direct reports include QA Supervisors, QA Line Technicians and QA Lab Technicians.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages compliance with all regulatory and Company defined food safety and sanitation standards, systems, procedures, and programs to guarantee absolute quality and food safety of products. Examples of these systems include: Vendor Certification, Inbound and Outbound Inspection, Ingredient, Intermediate and Finished Product Inspection, Microbiological Testing, Product Traceability, HACCP, Allergen, Sanitation, Pest Control, and Food Safety and Quality Systems Training
- Manages operations to maintain a SUPERIOR rating on third party inspections
- Develops and implements new methods and procedures to improve quality and safety
- Manages departmental activity to comply with all applicable safety laws and regulations, as well as Company safety policies, procedures and standards
- Manages the Quality Assurance function to ensure highly disciplined compliance with all product and process quality parameters and standards including formulations, specifications, procedures, programs and systems. These systems include:
- Product and process quality management system (Product Quality Guarantee)
- Customer complaint investigations, resolution and tracking
- Product quality evaluation
- Foreign material contamination investigation, resolution, and tracking
- Hold and release program
- Product and process quality management system (Product Quality Guarantee)
- 8 years experience in food manufacturing management, preferably in the bakery/dessert industry, with demonstrated success at the Quality Assurance Manager level.
- Strong quantitative skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to think critically.
- Self-directed with the ability to work independently as well as with groups.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work.
- Some travel as required to vendors and West Coast Bakery.
- Bachelor's degree in microbiology, chemistry, food science or related discipline. Advanced degree preferred.
