Job Description

We are currently seeking a Marketing Manager for Oakland Marriott City Center & Courtyard Oakland Downtown. This position will support both of our hotels in Oakland.

BASIC PURPOSE: Manages internal/external hotel(s) and/or marketing, advertising, promotion and public relations projects. Act as liaison between the hotel(s) and marketing support, outside agencies and contracted vendors/service providers. Practices overall project management and monitors the cost and status of all related sales & marketing expense items.

ORGANIZATIONAL SCOPE:

Position is responsible for the planning and implementation of hotel(s) comprehensive marketing programs. Requires extensive interaction and coordination with hotel(s) DOS,General Managers, Revenue Managers, Sales Staff Members and corporate personnel.

Positions reporting to this position may include: Administrative Assistant

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Plan and execute advertising and promotion campaigns in support of established hotel(s) strategic sales and marketing plans. Manages the relationship between the hotel(s) and internal/external marketing resources/vendors. Meet regularly with hotel(s) department heads, proactively providing marketing and strategic plans to the hotel(s). Ensure all campaigns are in compliance with brand advertising standards and guidelines. Manages the coordination of all Brand Marketing Programs. (30%)

2. Database Management/Marketing (15%)

  • Maintain record of active database availability
  • Develop new and update existing mailing lists for hotel(s) marketing needs
  • Analyze and review current/proposed data entry, storage and maintenance methods
  • Assist hotel(s) in the development and implementation of internal/external electronic communication
  • Response Tracking for executed initiatives
  • Sales System auditing and maintenance for database accuracy

3. Manages and maintains the following (25%)

  • Collateral programs
  • Electronic Marketing Efforts
  • Project Management
  • Sales Promotion Campaigns (Blitz, Tele Focus, etc)
  • Internal/External Communication on projects and initiatives
  • Web Sites - Comprehensive on-line marketing
  • Logos, photography digital library and monthly newsletters.
  • Development of promotional concepts for hotel(s) as needed to fill low levels of occupancy, food and beverage sales and expand awareness of on-site recreational activities.
  • Develop merchandising programs.
  • Update and oversight of Internet sites including special promotions, accurate loading of hotel information, competitive analysis, trends and recommendations

4.Oversee agency and other vendor projects and work orders for the hotel(s). (10%)

5.Budget/Expense Management 10%)

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the company. (10%)

  • Participate where appropriate in related trade civic/business related
  • Provide analysis necessary to support the development of the annual business plan and ongoing measurement.
  • Attend weekly, monthly and periodic sales, revenue management and marketing meetings as necessary.
  • Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned and participate in task forces and committees as requested
Job Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

Education: High School Diploma required. Four year college degree or equivalent education/experience with course work in marketing preferred.

Experience: Three years combined sales, marketing, data management and supervisory experience. Prior hotel/travel industry experience preferred

Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of marketing communication mediums to include but not limited to print advertising, internet marketing, public relations
  • Ability to develop and manage database information for marketing and sales communication
  • Ability to manage extensive amounts of information
  • Excellent written skills sufficient to produce internal/external sales and marketing communication
  • Excellent spoken and presentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team
  • Ability to delegate, manage manpower and organize complex projects and establishes priorities
  • Ability to effectively deal with department heads, executive committee members, team members and corporate staff, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet and work effectively under time and resource constraints.
