Job Description

The Sales Manager is responsible for new and existing accounts to meet/exceed revenue goals through telephone solicitation, outside sales calls, site inspections and written communication. Prepare correspondence to customers, internal booking reports and file maintenance. Participate in sales review meetings, trainings and other sales related meetings as required. Work with other departments within the hotel to provide quality service to customers. Maintain knowledge of market trends, competition and customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Achieve budgeted revenues and personal/team sales goals and maximize profitability. Participate in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget and the hotel marketing plan.

Create and implement sales plans that drive measurable incremental occupancy and increase average rates.

Follow up promptly on all sales leads regardless of the lead source. Submit monthly sales results on a timely basis.

Maintain accounts in the Sales System, ie. Sales Pro, with accurate histories, contact/planner information, and all relevant information regarding booking activity; up to and including, active traces to follow up on a regular basis.

Communicate to appropriate departments all pertinent information, requirements and special needs for arriving VIPs, groups and other events.

Develop and maintain relationships with key clients and outside contacts in order to produce group and/or transient business, to include room sales.

Assist in the development of special events and sales blitzes to showcase the hotel to potential clients. Attend trade shows and major market events locally, to promote new business and increase sales and marketing opportunities for the hotel. Develop awareness and reputation of the hotel and the brand in the local community.

Perform special projects and other tasks as assigned. May also serve as Manager on Duty.

Job Requirements

Ability to manage extensive amounts of information and provide constructive feedback and/or direction.

Knowledge of marketing, negotiating and sales procedures associated with the hotel industry.

Excellent written skills sufficient to produce sales and marketing communication that properly reflects the brand, hotel and Company image.

Excellent spoken and presentation skills.

Considerable ability to listen effectively.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team.

Ability to effectively communicate and deal with hotel managers, customers and team members; some of whom may require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy.

Ability to manage projects; meet and work effectively in a team environment under time and resource constraints.

Working knowledge of Sales-Pro software and Microsoft Office a plus.
