Job Description

The Hotel Madera & Firefly Restaurant, a Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant, are seeking experienced and energetic candidates for the position of Director of Engineering. This position reports directly to the Hotel General Manager and indirectly to the Regional Director of Facilities. The Director of Engineering is responsible for the repair, maintenance and operation of all equipment, furnishings, systems and building components of the hotel and restaurant facility. Under the direction of the General Manager and Regional Director of Facilities, the Director of Engineering is responsible for maintaining all equipment, systems and building components, including, but not limited to, mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks, furniture, paint, wall coverings, tile and other equipment/work normally maintained/performed by hotel Maintenance Engineers. Primary responsibilities also include hotel, restaurant, employee and guest life safety. Additional responsibilities include management and decision making authority for day to day operations, building and facilities maintenance and overall leadership of the hourly engineers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provides leadership to the Engineering hourly staff through performance management, training, coaching, counseling and recognition.
  • Provides direction and guidance to the Engineering team in the regular execution of all necessary daily, monthly, quarterly repair and maintenance of hotel and restaurant operating equipment including but not limited to all pumps, motors, boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, refrigeration and electrical units, lighting systems, plumbing, etc.
  • Prepare weekly schedules and payroll. Manages all labor costs and comply with all labor and employment laws.
  • Provides direction and guidance on painting maintenance for all hotel and restaurant surfaces.
  • Provides direction and guidance on proper and compliant maintenance of the physical plant in accordance with Kimpton standards and federal/state/city building codes and related laws.
  • *Responsible for oversight of property R&M tracking (Guestware) and the coordination of timely responses to all guest, employee or operational requested repairs for the hotel and restaurant.
  • Responsible for the purchasing of appropriate equipment nd the planning of capital expenditures subject to Kimpton policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure hourly engineers are adequately trained in all departmental, safety, life-safety and emergency policies and procedures.
  • Oversees replacement of light bulbs, fixtures, televisions and radios.
  • Repairs and maintains lock and key system.
  • Authorizes or performs minor construction work.
  • Ensure hourly engineers are adequately trained in all departmental, safety, life-safety and emergency policies and procedures.
  • Performs necessary inspections and repairs (as required & designated) to kitchen and restaurant equipment and furnishings.
  • Any other related duties as assigned by the General Manager or Regional Director of Facilities.
Job Requirements
Minimum 4-5 years hotel maintenance/engineering experience with 2 years engineering management experience at the level of Director of Engineer or Asst. Director of Engineer. Must be certified in high-rise fire Safety, CFC and chemical testing. Must be proficient in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, locksmith, refrigeration, welding, boiler maintenance, chillers and carpentry. Must possess experience with a software-based R&M tracking system, preferably Guestware or related systems-based tracking system.
