The Hilton Columbus/Polaris, located in the vibrant Polaris community, is currently seeking a full time Assistant Director of Sales for our 252 room property, featuring 25 suites and over 15,500 square feet of meeting/event space. This upscale, contemporary, AAA Four Diamond property will celebrate their 5 year anniversary in June of 2013. REPORTS TO: Director of Sales & Marketing

JOB OVERVIEW:  Seeking an energetic, hands-on, sales professional with demonstrated success in hotel group sales.  Manage group accounts to achieve guest satisfaction and to solicit past and new business to ensure all revenue goals are achieved or exceeded. Assist in the development and solicitation of business from all markets to ensure the necessary advance bookings needed for a successful and profitable operation for the hotel. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the DOSM with directing the solicitation efforts of the sales and catering staff through effective oral and written communication while overseeing rate, date and space commitments for group room sales and catering sales within the hotel. 

 

  • Assist the DOSM with training, recommend performance evaluations, resolve problems, provide open communication and recommend discipline and/or termination when appropriate.

 

  • Travel locally to conduct outside sales calls, promote the hotel and review competition.

 

  • Move throughout property to conduct site inspections.  Maximize revenue by selling all facets of the hotel, both orally and in written form to previous, current and potential clients.

 

  • Represent hotel at trade shows.  Set up exhibits involving bending, stooping, lifting and reaching overhead.

 

  • Ensure training programs are conducted regularly and Crescent standards of performance are met.  Give guidance and counsel staff toward improvement.

 

  • Assist the DOSM with overseeing the Revenue Sales Meeting with the Revenue Manager to ensure the proper mix of group/transient guests will maximizing occupancy and room revenue.

 

  • Assist the DOSM with development of marketing materials and/or ads for print or on-line to advertise the hotel and gain exposure to help drive revenues for the hotel.

 

  • Assist the DOSM with Compiling and/or directing the preparation of reports pertaining to the operation of the Sales & Catering Department and Revenue Management to include, but not limited to the annual and monthly Forecast, Marketing Budget, Lead Management System, Booking Report, Star reports and Sales Meeting minutes.

 

  • Coordinate ongoing research of the travel industry to detect market trends and related information for development of new marketing strategies. Make reasonable recommendations to improve potential from various markets.

 

  • Develop and conduct persuasive verbal sales presentations to prospective clients.  Internally promote Crescent programs.

 

  • Meet with and entertain clients some of which will require travel.

 

  • Communicate both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction to the staff.

 

  • Assist the DOSM with the preparation of computerized annual Sales & Marketing Plan and execute plans as outlined, critically examining and adjusting as deemed necessary by current market conditions.

 

  • Organize and/or attend scheduled Sales & Catering Department and related meetings in absence of DOSM.

 

  • Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.

 

  • Perform any other job related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have the ability to communicate in English. 
  • Self-starting personality with an even disposition. 
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, in order to effectively communicate event details and needs to staff and to likewise communicate with clients and guests. Must be willing to “pitch-in” and help co- workers with their job duties and be a team player.
  • Knowledge of a hotel structure and how all departments interact. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers in a friendly and positive manner, in order to solicit business, meet client needs and resolve complaints. 
  • Ability to move throughout the hotel to conduct site inspections.
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
  • Capability to travel locally to conduct outside calls, promote the hotel and review competition.

CANDIDATES SHOULD ALSO POSSESS THE FOLLOWING...
1) Excellent inter-personal and sales-related skills.
2) Requires computer skills, including, but not limited to… Microsoft Word, Excel and Delphi.
3) Extensive knowledge of hotel property, amenities, meeting room capacities, banquet set-up, audio-visual and any other pertinent details as they relate to selling the property
4) Ability to make independent and informed decisions.
5) Knowledge of hotel and competitive market.
6) Exceptional organizational skills.
7) In addition to the performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the particular requirements of the hotel:
* Professionally represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events.

* Flexible availability with ability to work weekdays, weekends, days, and nights and to be on site as needed when clients and/or their events are at the hotel

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent job related experience with at least 3-5 years of sales experience in an upscale full service hotel environment with heavy group or association market experience.
