DIRECTOR OF BEACH CLUB OPERATIONS
Nestled between the waters of Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, Fisher Island has consistently attracted a select handful of the world's notable business leaders. As described by the New York Times, "there are very few tropical island retreats these days where one can be cut off from the world and still be close to civilization. Fisher Island is such a place."
Carl Fisher, the pioneering developer of Miami Beach, was the first to recognize the Island's possibilities. But it was Vanderbilt who put a lasting stamp on the present 216-acre retreat. Vanderbilt immediately ordered work to begin on a Mediterranean-style mansion with exquisite baths, several guest houses, an art studio, servants' quarters, pools, tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course. Vanderbilt's vision was to build another extravagant, Newport-style palace, with a comfortable hideaway in harmony with the climate and laid back lifestyle of Miami Beach in the 1930's. But the design was not without elegance. Portraits of Napoleon were hung throughout the mansion, which also boasted tablecloths used by the Emperor. There were needlepoint chairs and cedar-lined closets even in the servants' quarters, and the Vanderbilt imperial V's in the dockside stonework.
Today, the original splendor has been restored and expanded, so that residents may enjoy the same luxury and privacy Vanderbilt created 50 years ago. With the Vanderbilt Mansion as its nucleus, Fisher Island has been transformed into a place where Vanderbilt would most certainly feel at home; an exclusive and secluded community for the affluent from around the world. The billion-dollar resort community is said to rival Portofino and Marbella for elegance.
In 1987, Fisher Island Club was incorporated to allow residents and prominent business people to buy equity membership to the Club's upscale amenities including a championship 9-hole golf course, world-renowned tennis courts, spa and fitness facility, seven restaurants, a gourmet market and several exclusive shops throughout the beautiful landscaped and lush surroundings.
