The SHERATON SALT LAKE CITY HOTEL is looking for a DIRECTOR of CATERING!  We are looking for experienced hospitality professional with at least 2-3 years Catering Director experience, preferably in full-service hotel.

In this position, you will direct the Catering department including planning, budgeting, forecasting, soliciting new customers, maintaining current customers, and promoting the hotel catering business.   (You MUST have sales, catering, booking experience for consideration.)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and direct the Catering Department - planning, budgeting, forecasting, soliciting sales, maintaining current customers, and promoting the catering business.
  • Interview, train, supervise, counsel, schedule, and evaluate staff.
  • Maximize revenues and space usage and control expenses through effective negotiation of services, accurate forecasting, effective space usage, and other techniques.
  • Develop and manage key accounts and generate repeat business.
  • Meet revenue goals while ensuring guest satisfaction and maximizing space use.
  • Solicit and book banquet and catering functions by evaluating profitability, timeliness, and desirability of the business. Negotiate pricing and aggressively close sales.
  • Determine the customer's needs, space availability, meeting details, and food and beverage requirements.  Develop menus and all details for event. 
  • Responsible for communication, coordination, training, and follow through with staff, other departments, vendors, and all areas to ensure the sale commitment is successfully fulfilled.
  • Develop marketing plans based on analysis of booking trends, patterns, revenue opportunities, etc.
  • Build rapport and strong on-going relations with hotel departments, professional network, and business relationships.
  • Prepare contracts, rate proposals, information databases, and sales collateral and tools.
  • Develop and drive budget and marketing plans.
  • Conduct tours, entertain potential clients, create menu presentations, etc.
  • Regularly update menus, packages, upgrades, and promotions.
  • Prepare management reports and maintain account files and documentation.
  • Serve as a liaison with competitors, industry associations, and business contacts to keep current on market conditions and trends.
  • Conduct staff meetings, organize staff activities, and represent hotel off-premises and at charity events.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-3 years Director of Catering experience, prefer full-service hotel.
  • High school education; 4 year degree or hospitality training, preferred.
  • Superior sales skills and able to generate new and on-going business through various sources.
  • Demonstrated success generating business, selling business, aggressively closing deals, prospecting, and meeting goals.
  • Solid software and database management skills.  Prefer Sales Pro experience. 
  • Utilize knowledge of property, space, capacities, booking guidelines, rate parameters, etc. to maximize success.
  • Event planning, management, food and beverage, and catering experience.
  • Proven management success with leading, training, and directing a team.
  • Forecasting, budgeting, and cost control experience.
  • Excellent communication skills – written, oral, and presentation.
  • Attention to details with excellent follow up, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Must have professional telephone etiquette with positive demeanor and infectious positive attitude.
  • Current driver’s license in good standing.
