Job Description

The Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown is currently seeking a Housekeeping Manager. This position will assist the Director of Housekeeping with day-to-day operations. Provide training, coaching, and counseling to all housekeeping employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

AVERAGE % OF TIME:

40% Assist in facilitating hiring process, including interviewing, training, and evaluating job performance. Provide ongoing training and development to all positions. Report progress to Director, Housekeeping.

30% Interact with all employees in the Housekeeping Department. Evaluate, coach, counsel and provide leadership support.

20% Conduct inspections of guest rooms and provide feedback to room attendants. Monitor supervisors and office coordinators.

10% Manage administrative duties, including payroll and operating expenses.

Other:

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.

Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Starwood rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel's facilities. Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the hotel.

  • Monitor Payroll/Kronos daily: Ensure team is clocking in/out in a timely manner as required per company policy, including employee absences. Document & Report pattern of discrepancies to Dir of Housekeeping.
  • Room Inspections, daily: Minimum of 10 Room Inspections per day. Room Inspection Report must be filled out. Monitor Supervisor Inspections and ensure they are entering scores in spreadsheet; monitor performance. Report discrepancies to Dir of Housekeeping
  • Show rooms: Inspect daily (when OFFMKT) ensuring they are readily available for Site Inspections. To be completed before 10am daily to accommodate early-morning Site visits.
  • Evening Crew Line-up, daily: meet with PM Coordinator, Turndown, Housemen and Supervisor (if on duty) and communicate day's/week's activities; this includes establishing and maintaining open communication with Front Desk team to ensure smooth operation.
  • US Foods/Sysco Order, weekly: Monitor supplies acquired through US Foods and/or Sysco (Toilet Tissue, Kleenex, Coffee, Tea, Hot Cups, Lids and Sleeves, Condiments, Water) and order when necessary, budget permitting.
  • Associate Uniforms: Ensure all associate uniforms conform to Brand Standards relating to appearance. Communicate with Department Managers when associates need uniforms and order according to budget.
  • Lost & Found: overall responsibility of Lost & Found. Work in conjunction with designated supervisor/coordinator to ensure full accountability of any and all items pertaining to L&F including expediting return of lost items to guests and/or appropriate disposal of unclaimed items.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.

Physical Demands
  • Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5 hours per day. Walking and standing are required during the rest of the working day. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other locations of the hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning/inspection tasks.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
  • Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, 10-key adding machine, electric typewriter, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, FAX machines, photocopiers, dolly and other office equipment as needed.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Education

High school or equivalent education required. Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Experience

Minimum three years management experience with at least two years in a housekeeping leadership role at progressively higher levels of responsibility.
