Alaska Denali Travel is looking for a highly energetic experienced General Manager to join our Denali Backcountry Lodge Team inside Denali National Park during the 2013 Summer Season.

Essential Functions:

  1. The primary responsibility of the Lodge General Manager is to provide the highest quality of service to the guests at all times.
  2. Attain DBL financial objectives. Adjust expenditures to reflect corresponding increase or decrease in revenue.
  3. Review and approve all procurement and DBL purchases, including but not limited to equipment, food & beverage, housekeeping supplies, gift shop items, and fuels.
  4. All DBL department heads/lead employees report to the General Manager, including both operations and programming; chain of command should always be followed.
  5. Provide strong leadership and foster development and mentoring of employees.
  6. Prior to season opening, in conjunction with President, determine the goals for the season.
  7. Demonstrate a results-oriented attitude through accomplishments in operations.
  8. Conduct daily and weekly walk-through and inspections of all DBL facilities and departments with department head/lead.
  9. Ensure a safe working environment for all employees, enforcing safety guidelines, building awareness about safety, maintaining Alaska Denali Travel and OSHA, EPA, and regulatory agency standards.
  10. In conjunction with President, create and implement policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, employee, operational, and programming.
  11. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills and computer literacy.
  12. Act as Human Resource Specialist, including, but not limited to payroll, HR paperwork, coaching, disciplinary action, training, team building, staff motivation, and promoting a positive team concept.
  13. Develop staffing and scheduling guidelines with all department head/leads.
  14. Ensure all departments have the tools, supplies, equipment, knowledge, experience, and training needed to be successful.
  15. Public relations representative.
  16. Be especially visible to guests during peak times of service, and to provide immediate assistance to guests as requested.
  17. Familiarization and ability to train and/or provide guidance in all DBL department processes.
  18. Managing guest service supply inventory.
  19. Gathering and forwarding guest information and requests to appropriate lodge departments for their immediate action.
  20. Operate motor vehicles when needed.
  21. Coordinate seasonal opening and closing of DBL.
  22. Must have a current First Aid and CPR certification.
  23. Must have current State of Alaska Food Workers Card.
  24. Must be able to move and lift supplies, equipment, and tools weighing 50 pounds or less.
  25. President may assign other duties as needed.

  • Bachelors Degree in Hospitality or Business Management is desired.
  • The candidate must possess 5 years of previous hospitality management experience; some of that experience should be remote lodge(s).
  • Understanding of financial reports, budget and labor control. Able to prepare reports as required.
  • Good Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
  • Ability to learn computer programs in a very fast and efficiently manner.
  • Professional communication skills, oral and written.
  • Actively supervises, motivates and disciplines employees.
  • Great organization and leadership skills.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Can effectively solve problems.
  • Able to give and receive directions.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Current ServSafe Certification
