The Larkspur Landing, South San Francisco, CA, is searching for a team-oriented, results-driven professional to join the team as Housekeeping Manager.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Housekeeping Manager has overall responsibility for the operation and supervision of the Housekeeping department.  This position inspects vacant and occupied suites, schedules work of others, and maintains supplies and equipment, while ensuring that system standards and consistency are maintained.  Provides supervision and direction for all Housekeeping activities of the hotel to ensure the highest levels of cleanliness and Guest satisfaction are maintained.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Directing Team Members

  • Hire, train, supervise, schedule, coach and counsel Housekeeping team members. 
  • Distribute and delegate workload to guarantee maximum production and guest satisfaction with minimum outlay of expenses in terms of labor and materials.  Monitor occupancy and make staffing adjustments accordingly.
  • Plan, organize, and monitor team member activities to ensure compliance with hotel quality standards, which requires continuous visual inspection of all physical areas of the hotel.

 

Operations

  • Inspect all suites after cleaning when Housekeeping Supervisor is not present.  Ensure correction of cleaning problems found in inspected suites as needed.
  • Supervise the operation of linen, uniform, supply and Lost and Found storage rooms.
  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure proper Preventive Maintenance (PM) procedures are followed, preparing reports as needed.
  • Ensure special cleaning projects and suite care are implemented and followed through.
  • Evaluate condition of furniture, fixtures, décor, etc., and make recommendations and complete appropriate work orders.
  • Manage inventory controls for uniforms, linens and supplies to be monitored by issuance procedures and purchasing.

 

Guest Service

  • Accommodate guests’ special requests courteously and efficiently.
  • Implement Guest Lost and Found program to ensure proper security of lost items.

 

Miscellaneous

  • Plan and facilitate daily Rise & Shine Team Huddle and other team member meetings.
  • Prepare, file, and maintain records of inventories and other pertinent records.
  • Ensure safety procedures and proper use of chemicals and cleaning supplies by monitoring usage, providing complete training for team members, and ensuring proper labeling of hazardous supplies in accordance with hotel HAZCOM program and retention of current MSDS sheets.
  • Support other departments as a cross-functional manager on duty (MOD) as needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience: Minimum three years hotel housekeeping experience required.  Some supervisory experience preferred.

Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively and professionally with other business departments, guests, and vendors.  Ability to diplomatically deal with difficult situations and people, while exhibiting a consistent level of professionalism.

Technical Skills: Facility maintenance and housekeeping skills required.  Knowledge of proper chemical handling and safety procedures required.  Basic computers skills required.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, report or schedule form.

Other Skills & Abilities: Able to work with little or no supervision and to effectively supervise others.  Operate equipment such as, but not limited to, laundry & kitchen equipment, energy management system, magnetic card door-lock system, vacuum, computer, calculator, commercial washer and dryer, agitator washer, security system, door locks, fire panel and dishwasher.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequent or occasional need to perform the following physical activities: reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting, and climbing.   Have frequent need to perform standing and walking activities related to inspecting property. 
  • Constant need to perform the following physical activities: grasping, turning, finger dexterity.
  • Occasional need to stand for long periods of time.
  • Lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs. frequently and 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • Vision requirements: constant need to view small print.  Frequent need to see small details and things clearly beyond arms’ reach.
  • Hearing requirements: constant need to speak on telephone and/or two-way radio, respond to general public and converse with staff.  Ability to hear fire alarms and emergency equipment.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the individual occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to warm, wet and/or humid conditions.  The individual is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
