The Chief Engineer is responsible for: maintaining the entire hotel facility; including physical building structure; all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and related equipment. This individual ensures the upkeep of guest areas and maintains an attractive hotel. S/he manages all rehabilitation, expansion and special projects. Five year’s experience as an engineer, with engineering experience in hotel environments preferred; must be certified as Fire Safety Director in addition to required licenses and certificates as required by law. Engineer works closely with General Manager. Must be flexible, hands on and available to work any day of the week, and all three shifts. Supervises the day to day activities of departmental staff. Implements policies and procedures to ensure energy conservation throughout the hotel. Conducts inspections of public space and does follow-up as needed. Meets and exceeds customer expectations by ensuring department provides outstanding customer service and teamwork. Selects, orients, and trains qualified associates, when necessary. Assists with yearly budget. Recommends purchases of products; as supported by operational budget. Works side by side with associates as necessary to provide rooms to meet forecasted demand. Responds to both customer and hotel staff reports of non-functioning areas immediately. Maintains problem log book to record the equipment in need of repair and prioritizes accordingly. Maintains rooms in optimal operating condition by performing repairs as needed. Understands and implements the Preventive Maintenance Program and certify Life Safety directives as required by Holiday Inn. Maintains operating equipment in working condition by performing routine equipment checks and repairs. Demonstrates familiarity with the hotel’s life safety systems and takes corrective action on any maintenance or operating problems which affect the security or operating condition of the hotel. Will lead the fire drills as required by New York City's Fire Department. Ensures compliance with all Fire and Building Code requirements set by New York City, Fire Safety Director, Certificate of Fitness, a must. Maintains safe working conditions within department and hotel. Reports any hazards or injuries in the department or hotel and takes immediate action to correct. Keeps General Manager fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance. Coordinates maintenance work with other departments.
