Job Summary
It is important to provide a positive image of the company from the start to both employees and guests. The American Steamboat Company is looking for a Bartender to live and work aboard the American Queen. This person will report directly to the Bar Manager onboard. The Bartender will have responsibility of serving beverages both alcoholic and non-alcoholic at all beverage outlets aboard the American Queen.
Essential Functions the following are essential functions of the job but are not all-inclusive.
- Responsible for performing work in a safe manner and following all safety rules.
- Courteously and efficiently delivers and serves beverage items to passengers.
- Has recipe knowledge of all drinks and mixes all beverages consistently, neither under nor over pouring liquor.
- Upholds liquor serving laws and never serves to minors or crew members.
- Knowledge of wine menu for service in all dining areas.
- Maintains point of sale system and properly charging passenger accounts for purchases at the bar.
- Maintains and cleans all utensils, machinery and equipment.
- Maintains a sanitary work area, clean and free of clutter, especially with regard to company policy and Food and Drug Administration sanitation requirements. Work areas include all self-service areas and bar areas.
- Perform stores handling and loading of liquor orders onto vessel and/or housekeeping duties on vessel turnover days.
- Practice food safety procedures as directed by the Bar Manager.
- Maintain stock in bars and requisitioning of liquor and supplies.
- Proper use of all drink blending machines.
- Proper use of knife for cutting, slicing and dicing of fruit or vegetable for condiments in drinks.
- Proper use of glass cleaning machine.
- Responsible for assisting with waste disposal.
- Responsible for receiving cocktail food items and non-food supplies and storing them in the proper areas in accordance with the FIFO (first in-first out) inventory method.
- Is friendly, courteous and cheerful at all times.
- Provides assistance to other crew members and departments to contribute to the best overall operation.
- Set-up and break-down of private parties and special activities.
- Fills station bill requirements and participate in drills with regard to passenger safety.
- Promotes good business principles by never discussing company business in public areas with other crew members or passengers.
- All other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.
Experience
- Two years full service operations.
- Cruise industry experience preferred
- High School Diploma
